Catch the Wind
Donnie Munro Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In the chilly hours and minutes,
Of uncertainty, I want to be,
In the warm hold of your loving mind.

To feel you all around me,
And to take your hand, along the sand,
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind.
When sundown pales the sky,
I wanna hide a while, behind your smile,
And everywhere I'd look, your eyes I'd find.

For me to love you now,
Would be the sweetest thing, 'twould make me sing,
Ah, but I may as well, try and catch the wind.

When rain has hung the leaves with tears,
I want you near, to kill my fears
To help me to leave all my blues behind.

For standin' in your heart,

Is where I want to be, and I long to be,
Ah, but I may as well, try and catch the wind.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Donnie Munro's "Catch The Wind" evoke feelings of uncertainty and a longing for love and comfort. The song opens with the singer expressing a desire to be in the "warm hold" of his love interest's mind during moments of uncertainty. He continues to express his desire to be close to her, to feel her presence and to hold her hand, but he acknowledges that catching the wind is just as futile as trying to attain such closeness.

The second verse focuses on the desire to hide behind his love interest's smile as he seeks solace during sundown. The singer reflects on how just the sight of her eyes would be enough to comfort him in his uncertainty. He expresses that loving her would be the "sweetest thing" and make him sing, yet he still feels as if catching the wind is more realistic.

The final verse of the song expresses the singer's longing to be close to his love interest during moments of sadness, and to have her help him overcome his fears and leave his "blues" behind. He wishes to be in her heart, recognizing that it is where he truly wants to be, but still feeling as if his attempts are as fruitless as trying to catch the wind.

I agree - I love Donnie's voice - almost too good to be true.

So glad Donnie's solo career is doing well and that his voice is as evocative as ever but oh, how I miss him being still with Runrig. The other guy, Bruce, has a good voice, but its timbre is not Celtic. It lacks the emotional impact and musicality Donnie's has. Runrig ruled when Donnie was the lead singer.

Dave Rowarth

Agree.

So so AGREE :)

It may sound like Dylan, however this was written and originally performed by another massively talented Scotsman ,Donovan.

One more thing: I love singing with you and friends. .I must admit I do very well.💖

Allan McDigger

This song has nothing to do with Bob Dylan, it was originally written and sung in 1965 by the very talented Donovan Leitch who was born in Glasgow.

Why do people always credit Bob Dylan with this song?
