Weekend
Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The weekend is coming soon
Well it's time to pick yourself up off the floor
Well let's grab a case of lager
and some old beat up shoes
Head down to the river
I'll strap on a canoe
We've got every kind of good girl comin' down
You just grab your banjo man
Try to sell some out
We'll play the songs we always, always sing
I can take and tell a line
You can take the lead
We'll all have, a weekend awesome

Weekends coming soon
Well let's start watching TV
And washing dishes too
We've got all the time the weekdays, and all day
So lets spend it all and celebrate
Just pretend we all got paid
We'll all have, a weekend awesome

Well I know just what to do
Cause I've been here before
Cause I know what I have
Well I've been here before
Yes I've been here before

Well I've been here before
Well I've been here

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band's song "Weekend" depict a sense of anticipation and excitement for the upcoming weekend. The singer urges the listener to pick themselves up off the floor and join in the fun. They suggest grabbing some lager and old beat-up shoes before heading down to the river, where they plan to go canoeing. The lyrics indicate that there will be a variety of attractive women joining them for the weekend, with the suggestion of the listener playing the banjo to entertain them. The focus is on enjoying the weekend to the fullest, playing songs, and celebrating in an awesome and carefree manner. The mention of watching TV and washing dishes may suggest that the activities mentioned earlier are more preferable and exciting in comparison to the mundane tasks of daily life.

Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of escapism and the desire to make the most of the limited time available during the weekend. It captures the spirit of letting go of responsibilities and embracing leisure activities with a like-minded group of people.

The whole album is a treasured classic.. The theme, music and a time period that was larger than life to the likes of which will never be seen again.. Amazing performances all around.. Bravo!! (Applauds)

Love how they went back to the 30s..40s Big Band Era....during the hieght of the 70s...When there was Soul..Pop...RB..Disco..Funk Jazz...Jazz..Funk Bands..Rock...Soft Rock...ECT..The Seventies had it all!!

Incredible music era.

@jaywill7137

Agree wholeheartedly with that statement! 70's was the deadliest era of music because it had every genre in it and nothing will ever touch it no matter how far the future may last! They were special people and geniuses who indulged entirely into their craft! Will never see that again!

Well, to be fair, this is Disco. It’s very smart and stylish disco because they took big band and made it disco unlike the other disco bands at the time. Not sure there’s been another band like this. When I was little, we had this album on vinyl.
