My Song
Dr. Kasper Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I was out on the lawn, smoking a jay
When a dude rolled up, said he was looking for Ray
I said Ray's not here and I'm killing time
Writing a song, looking for a rhyme
The fellow smiled, I gave him a CD
If you like the songs, you'll remember me
He drove away and I sat on the ground
I was looking for a lighter, when he come back around
(He said) That's my song!
That's my song!
If you hear that beat, then you're moving your feet baby
That's my song!
(He said) That's my song!
That's my song!
If you hear that beat, then you're moving your feet baby
That's my song!
He said come over tonight and record a song
Just bring a fifth of scotch along
You might have talent, you never know
By the way, you can call me Bo
I stuck around for a couple of years
Learned to sing my song and have no fear
He's gone now, but he'd want you to know
If you hear that beat, you're hearing Bo
That's my song!
That's my song!
If you hear that beat
And you're moving your feet
That's my song!
That's my song!
That's my song!
If you hear that beat, and you're moving your feet

That's my song!
Sit down honey, you don't know Diddley

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Dr. Kasper's song "My Song" tell a story of a chance encounter with a mysterious stranger named Ray. The singer of the song is smoking a joint on the lawn when Ray approaches, asking for him. However, the singer claims not to know Ray and uses the moment to write a song and search for inspiration. A friendly exchange occurs, and the singer gives Ray a CD of his songs.

Later, when the singer is looking for a lighter, Ray unexpectedly returns. Ray recognizes the song playing and enthusiastically declares, "That's my song!" The singer finds this encounter intriguing, leading to a meeting with Ray where they plan to record a song together. Ray, who also goes by the name Bo, emphasizes that the singer may have undiscovered talent and insists they bring a bottle of scotch for the occasion.

Over the next couple of years, the singer learns to confidently sing his own song with no fear under Ray's guidance. Although Ray is no longer present, the singer believes that if people hear the beat of his song and start moving their feet, they're hearing the influence of Ray, who is fondly remembered as Bo.

Overall, "My Song" is a tale of a chance encounter with a mentor figure named Ray/Bo, who inspires the singer's musical journey and leads them to find their own unique voice.

Head cannon: this is Dr. Darling encouraging Jesse from whatever parallel dimension he’s in

@andrewaddison777

Without this song Jesse doesn't gather the strength to resist the Hiss. Dr Darling is the true hero.

@TitaniumDragon

That is absolutely what is going on there.

@AusSP

Isn't that exactly what it is? What other interpretation is there? Jesse hallucinating? The Board?

@sunstar3988

He says "Jesse is dynamite" so it has to be, right?

@tomesofawesome8041

First time I saw this video IN GAME, I SWEAR TO GOD, IT SHOWED UP IN MID AIR DURRING THE FINAL SHOOT OUT IN THE ASTRAL PLANE! I agree with Dravakin !!

This is the kind of cheesy fun I expect Remedy to put into their games. Yeah, their titles tend to lean more on the dramatic side of things, but then there's always a moment or two in them where something like this happens, and it's what makes them so unique.

@timmylean

I still think Threshold Kids took it too far.

My name is Alan Wake, I'm a writer.

JESSE IS DYNAMITE!

The dark place will do that to you
