Awful Mess
Drawn From Bees Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't know what to do
I'm stuck here in this mess with you
I think I'm falling through
Can someone see an exit sign?

This superficial mess is all that's left
Of what we are
I have suggestions but it won't
Get anyone too far

All my friends are under water
All this ends if things sink faster

I'm a liar

All my friends are under water
All this ends if things sink faster

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Drawn From Bees's song "Awful Mess" convey emotions of feeling trapped and hopeless in a situation that doesn't seem to have a way out. The opening lines of the song paint a picture of someone who is lost and feels stuck in a situation that they cannot escape. The line "I'm stuck here in this mess with you" suggests that this mess is a shared experience, and the phrase "falling through" communicates the desperation and powerlessness that the individual feels. The question "Can someone see an exit sign?" adds a little glimmer of hope, perhaps that there is a way out, but the unsure tone of the lyric implies that the singer is dubious.

The second verse provides a bit more context to the situation with the line "This superficial mess is all that's left of what we are." This line suggests that this situation has been created by the individuals involved and that it is separating them from who they were before. This can be interpreted in many ways; it could be a reference to the breakdown of a relationship or friendship or the realization that the life they were living was never genuine. The line "I'm a liar" is an admission of guilt or responsibility, adding further complexity to the situation.

"All my friends are underwater" is an especially evocative line. It conveys a sense of being left behind and abandoned, a sense of being all alone. The repetition of the phrase "all my friends" emphasizes the isolation that the character feels. The line "All this ends if things sink faster" could be interpreted in different ways depending on the individual, but it could be seen as an acceptance of the situation and its inevitability. It could also be interpreted as a desire to end this suffering sooner rather than later.

Overall, "Awful Mess" is a song about feeling lost, trapped, and disconnected from oneself and others. The lyrics convey a deep sense of isolation and desperation, and the accompanying music adds to the overall melancholic mood of the song.

@@micmacha Sorry I do not have links to any papers. Where I received the information was from a documentary. Unfortunately I do not even remember what the documentary was titled. However it was from the 70's. I think it was one of the "In search of" episodes of the series hosted by Leonard Nimoy, although I could be wrong.

It showed a bee in a container being subjected to 300hz tone. The bee walked around, although when the tone was on, the bee stopped still with paralysis.

You are probably correct and the bee may just have been trying to process the sound as being from a bee hive. Although, it is strange that it paralyzed the bee, while the tone was on. If I remember right, the tone was generated by an electromagnetic actuator. It was just a piece of metal vibrating in a magnetic field.

The tone was quite potent. I think the bee may have been freaked out and thought it was in a non-familiar beehive, and was reacting to fear, or maybe waiting to sense familiar or hostile pheromone commands?

Regardless the bee would stop dead in its tracks and not move a muscle, or beat its wings until the tone was turned off. It may not even work with the more aggressive African bee strains.

If it is something to do with hive tones, it would be interesting to experiment. I would like to place a speaker somewhere like 50 metres away from a African bee hive, then initiate the tone. Perhaps they will all flock there to attack. Could be a good way to lead them into a trap.

You could probably try the tone thing, if you catch a normal bee and put it in a clear box, then subject it to a 300hz tone more or less, from a speaker.

If you try it, please try and release the bee unharmed, and give it a little sugar mixed with water dabbed on its proboscis with a small cotton bud, or just place a drop on the surface, of where the bee is walking, near its head. The bee will suck it up for energy so it can make it back to its hive.

If you ever see a bee looking a little tired and sick, just do the above. A better alternative is to use honey instead of water.

I think we can all agree that informative videos from the 90s-2000s were scarier than actual horror movies
