With their dramatic flow, jazzy beats and a flair for the hypnotically melodic, Dream/Clone has been winning over audiences since their formation in 2003. The trioโs new EP, Transymphonic, is music for both the body and the brain; songs for both dancing and thought, and signifies the arrival of a unique and winning new act that has persisted and grown in some of the most unlikely of ways.
Dream/Clone originated at Amherst College in the late 90โs. Staze, (Dave Stasiak) a lifelong musician who had began his musical life in his church and school choir and had moved on to studying classical and jazz in college, began incorporating hip-hop beats in his work, along with elements of techno and house. In his senior year, while making an album for a school project, he happened upon Brett Richey, a Pittsburgh native and lifelong hip-hop lover and both an aspiring rapper and poker player. The two found that their music styles fit, and Brett ended up laying his lyrics and flow on Stazeโs beats. The material they created would comprise over half of their debut album, Future Holds Nothing, released in late 2004, under their new name, Dream/Clone.
Going the independent route, the act financed themselves through a somewhat unorthodox manner - Brettโs poker winnings. As he explains, โAfter college, I didnโt want a real job, so I kept playing and getting better. I caught the eye of Eric Lindgren, one of the top players in the world.โ Brett has appeared in the World Series of Poker on ESPN twice and played in the $50,000 buy-in H.O.R.S.E. event. But as Brett states, the poker is a means to an end: โI care much more about the music. Poker is a job.โ
With Brettโs poker winnings supporting the act, they began to play shows relentlessly, promoting the album and creating a buzz for themselves in the Boston underground, opening for acts such as Tonedeff and 2mex of the Visionaries. When Bostonโs confines became a little tight, Staze and Brett took themselves to the birthplace of hip-hop, New York City, to bring their game to the next level. Dream/Clone would quickly take on a new member, the Ghanaian rapper Nkozi, and record their new EP, Transymphonic.
What one notices immediately upon listening to Transymphonic is Dream/Clones musicality. Unlike most hip-hop acts, the group used an approach more akin to that of a rock band. As Staze explains, โWe donโt use samples. We compose the music more organically.โ The effect is apparent in songs like the anthemic โGet Amped,โ which sounds like Nkozi and Brett leading the worldโs funkiest marching band. โKTUโ showcases Stazeโs house influences and Nkoziโs astonishing flow to create a song both substantive and danceable, with various percussive elements all working harmoniously. โLookinโ manages to use a well-worn lyrical theme โ looking for women โ and makes it inventive and fresh, with Stazeโs fast-patter hook and Brettโs compelling story and flow.
Dream/Clone, while proud of Transymphonic, isnโt resting on its laurels. With upcoming touring scheduled, the trio is eager to take their music to the people and to expand its audience. As Brett states, โOur music is everyday music for everyday people. Itโs music that anyone and everyone can relate to.โ And with Dream/Cloneโs persistence and elevation of their craft, one can expect Transymphonic to blow their game up in 2008.

Dream/Clone Lyrics

(You murderer)
My father's dead
(Your day will come)
Don't hold your breath
The night's still young
Confront your death
Who's this I see
Approaching me?
The chosen one
Drawing closer, pace by pace
The walking shadow hides its face
Never aware of a looming attack
Like stepping right into a trap
As his weapon
Finds its victim
Mortified, he's shocked to find the shadow is Faythe
The lyrics to Dream/Clone's song "Shadows" touch upon the theme of betrayal and revenge. The opening lines "What have you done? (You murderer) My father's dead (Your day will come)" suggest that the song is about a character who has lost his father to a murderer and is seeking revenge. The line "Your day will come" implies that the perpetrator will receive their punishment in due time.
The chorus "Don't hold your breath, the night's still young" indicates that the character is waiting for the right moment to confront the murderer, implying that the altercation is likely to take place at night. The line "Confront your death, like father, like son" highlights the idea that the character is willing to face death to avenge his father's murder, much like his father may have faced death bravely himself.
The second verse introduces the "chosen one" who is approaching the character. The line "Drawing closer, pace by pace, the walking shadow hides its face" suggests that the chosen one is not immediately recognizable and may be hiding their identity. The line "Never aware of a looming attack, like stepping right into a trap" indicates that the character doesn't perceive the danger that the chosen one poses and may fall into their trap. The third verse reveals that the chosen one is, in fact, Faythe, and that the confrontation has a personal history behind it. The line "As his weapon finds its victim, mortified, he's shocked to find the shadow is Faythe" suggests that Faythe was not expected to be the attacker.

Hey mate, that sounds cool! I'll see what I can do. Manipulating time lines is pretty dope so maybe I'll do a long one. ๐ค

Meanlad I have a fighting game that is 3d so people would be able to pick different characters but idk how to make logic that has it to where the game detects when a certain character is selected so that for example a kamehameha beam is not going to try and detect a character that is not in the scene. Also great video!

Yo Tammi and crew! Loving all the engagement! ๐คฉ Hmm, I still need to get my head wrapped around a targeting system. Like with one enemy it's possible but if you had multiple or would default to nearest enemy. I must figure out how to make a controllable lock-on system ๐ค๐ค๐ค
But yeah I think it would involve tags like Hero and Enemy. If you wanted to do a simple energy blast (like Vegeta's consecutive energy blast) it would be easy cuz you'd just put a follower on each individual keyblast that would make it move towards the enemy. But for a Kamehameha it would kind of bend the blast and look a bit choppy ๐ค
As for facing the character, puppets can make it tricky cuz they don't always listen to rotators. Cuz my brain says, aw mate just use a look-at rotator but yeah puppets can be stubborn and ignore them sometimes ๐ค๐ค๐ค๐ค
Hmm, sorry Tammi. I've not been much help but I'll try and figure this business out!

@FN Mark 10 sorry for the late response but I'm thinking about calling it DB Chronicles. I still have not decided tho

Whats The Name Of The Game? :)

@Tammi Wade yeah, I actually misunderstood your question yesterday. You can use a persistent variable named character to differentiate the players but honestly idk what to do
