In 1988 Gunnar Gunnar (voc/g), Busch'n (voc/bg) und Krel (dr) played their first gig in their hometown Rostock (North/East Germany).
In January 2005 Busch'n died of cancer. Stefan (voc, bg) became his worthy replacement.
Dritte Wahl has released nine studio albums, three live-cds and 2 dvds.

The lyrics from Dritte Wahl's song Ruhe vor dem Sturm describe a hypothetical utopian society where there is no more movement or aggression, only peaceful encounters where love replaces anger and hate. The idea is taken even further to a point where natural enemies no longer exist, animals and plants no longer defend themselves, and there is some sort of unexplained thousand-year long peace. However, that peace is described as the calm before the storm, leading to the conclusion that as long as there is profit to be made from conflict, new enemies will be sought out to maintain the status quo.
The song highlights the cyclical nature of conflict and aggression, stating that throughout history groups of people have been treated as enemies, including Jews, Indians, Turks, Romanians, and Cubans, and if those groups were to no longer exist, new enemies would be sought out to maintain the economic, social, and political systems that rely on conflict. It highlights the constant need for a common enemy in order to justify the continuation of power and profits at the expense of others. The last lines, "Maybe tomorrow it's the ones with blonde hair and blue eyes, maybe it's the big businesses that are worth nothing. Who knows?!," suggest that there is always a new group to be targeted, and that group could be anyone, including those considered part of the majority or those in power.
