With a pool of over 30 demos to work with and Jarvis Taveniere of Woods onboard to produce, the band headed to Thump Studios in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, to record their debut LP for Captured Tracks. The result is Calling Out, a cohesive 12-song statement in the long tradition of fully realized debuts, stripped of artifice, but full of hooks and songwriting chops. They’ve got one foot firmly planted in classic American power-pop and college rock while the other utilizes more left-of-the-dial sonic experimentation. The result is a sound that’s both familiar and new, but always about the songs.
States Of Confusion

For a momentary mile
Well it's been this way a while
Face down on the concrete
While I dream of wider streets
Thought you would just follow too
Through states of confusion
Thought the fall it would come fast
Not like this it lasts and lasts
I just need somewhere to go
Nothing above nothing below
Must be some place I don't know
Everything was moving
Through states of confusion
On an axle never winning
I can't touch the place that's spinning
Slow tomorrow
Lost not borrowed
Barely faded out
Everything was moving
Through states of confusion
On an axle never winning
I can't touch the place that's spinning
The lyrics of EZTV's song "States of Confusion" seem to delve into feelings of restlessness, frustration, and a longing for something more. The singer begins by describing a sense of stagnation and monotony, using the metaphor of being face down on the concrete, dreaming of wider streets. This can be interpreted as a desire for a change or escape from their current circumstances.
The phrase "thought you would just follow too" suggests that the singer had hoped for someone to join them in their pursuit of something better. However, it seems that they feel disappointed or let down, as if they were the only one yearning for a different path.
The chorus reinforces the theme of confusion and uncertainty, as the singer describes everything moving through "states of confusion." This could be a reflection of the constant changes and uncertainty in life, which can often leave us feeling disoriented and unsure of our next move.
The lines "on an axle never winning, I can't touch the place that's spinning" further portray a sense of frustration and feeling stuck. The image of an axle that is constantly moving but never reaching a favorable outcome suggests a sense of being trapped in a cycle of disappointment.
The final verse hints at a glimmer of hope, expressing a desire to find a place that is somehow different, a place that is unknown to the singer. This suggests a longing for a fresh start or a new beginning, a place where they can finally find solace and escape the confusion and monotony of their current situation.
Overall, the lyrics of "States of Confusion" explore themes of restlessness, dissatisfaction, and a search for meaning and change. It captures the emotions and thoughts of someone who feels stuck and seeks an escape from their circumstances, wanting to break free from the spinning wheel of confusion and find a place where they can truly belong.
