That's My Desire
Earl Perkins Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

To spend one night with you in our old rendezvous,
And reminisce with you that's my desire.
To meet where gypsies play, down in that dim cafe,
And dance 'till break of day that's my desire.
We'll sip a little glass of wine, I'll gaze into your eyes divine.
I'll feel the touch of your lips pressing on mine.
To hear you whisper low just when it's time to go,
Cherie, I love you so, that's my desire.

I’ve never heard this song sung like this before, so seductively! It’s a pity that a full version is not available. JLL is genius.

This minute of piano and voice by Jerry Lee Lewis is so awesome- one of the best of The Million Dollar Quartet- I am wondering- please- Did Jerry Lee Ever Record this whole song or sing this at any other time????

Thank you for finding out if any recordings by Jerry Lee of this song exist. I Found that the 4 songS by Jerry Lee on Million Dollar Quartet are so amazing because they are piano instrumentals, and I wish he had done even one album with no band of just his piano instrumentals and voice kind of like what some singers today do with just guitar which they call "Acoustic Covers" of songs. Imagine if we had a whole album of Jerry Lee Lewis like he is singing and playing here!!!! I wonder if anyone has the idea to use technology to take some of his vocal tracks off of previous recordings and bring Jerry Lee into Sun Studios or any studio to play Piano to his voice tracks, kind of a remix album. I believe that even though his voice has weakened, he can still belt out the piano. I hope they do this while he can still play.

BTW, Paul, I wonder if you have any thoughts on the Million Dollar Quartet. I have made some deductions about it from listening carefully and listening to Jerry Lee Lewis interviews. The "complete" hour and 18 minutes is clearly not in order and at some points you can hear that there are omissions of chunks of footage. Also, the stated notion that Elvis was at piano till the end and that Elvis got up and Lewis slid in for the last 4 songs is clearly wrong. It is absolutely Jerry Lee jamming with Perkins and the drummer at the beginning with Jerry Lee playing " Blue Suede" and "White Christmas" piano- I have no idea why people have not corrected this. Near the end of "white Christmas" you can hear faintly Elvis start singing a completely difft song on guitar, so he could not have been playing the piano there. And it's clearly played by Lewis as it is his style. Also, Jerry Lee has said that that day he was jamming for 4-5 hours at Sun studios, and Johnny Cash said that Elvis sang 2 other songs that day that aren't on our "Complete" recording. When they were discussing Chuck Berry the audio is definitely cut - maybe they used a derogatory word not acceptable in today's lingo, but a chunk is missing. Where are the Missing TWO PLUS HOURS?? Also, the Photo shows Elvis on piano but I think that was posed at some point, because clearly you can hear Elvis on Guitar at times.
