I took the last picture of her alive during her gig at the Cafe Carlyle in NYC. I held her hand to help her keep her balance as she stepped down off the stage. As she stepped down, I pulled her hand up and kissed it. She looked down at me and said
“Oh…thank you baby!”
She then was kind enough to sign a short poem I wrote about her & let me take her photo.
I’m here to tell you, it doesn’t get much better than that!
She passed one month later from colon cancer on Christmas Day.

I was fortunate enough to see Miss Kitt in concert a few years before she passed. She came out in a silver lame gown, which left the audience gasping. She proceeded to wow the audience for a full hour and a half. She did this song, and in the preamble, mentioned cheekily that "she had made it a hit before that bitch Madonna".....the audience loved it! She also mentioned that her two favourite foods were steak tartare and Veuve Cliquot champagne.....and thanks to us, she could afford them both. Sadly missed.

I have listened to this "original" song for years! I had it as my ring tone.
