I'll See You Again
Easy Virtue Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'll see you again
When ever spring breaks through again
Time may lie heavy between
But what has been
is past forgetting
This sweet memory
Across the years
Will come to me
Though my world may go awry
In my heart will ever lie
Just an echo of a sigh
Goodbye

All my life I shall remember knowing you
All the pleasure I have found in showing you
The different ways
That one may phrase
The changing light
And changing shade
Happiness that must die
Melodies that must fly
Memories that must fade
Dusty and forgotten by and by

I'll see you again
When ever spring breaks through again
Time may lie heavy between
But what has been
is past forgetting
This sweet memory
Across the years
Will come to me
Though my world may go awry
In my heart will ever lie

Just an echo of a sigh
Goodbye

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of this song by Easy Virtue Orchestra and Ben Barnes suggest the idea of lost love and the pain of saying goodbye. The singer remarks that although time may pass and things may change, the memory of the person they are singing to will always stay with them. They use vivid imagery and metaphors to describe the happiness they felt with this person and the sadness they now feel in parting from them. The singer acknowledges that this person may no longer be a part of their life, but the sweet memory of them will linger on in their heart as just an echo of a sigh.

The song expresses a poignant yearning for a lost love that could not be sustained. The lyrics express an acceptance of this fact while at the same time, lamenting what was lost. The tone is pensive and reflective, yet ultimately hopeful that in some way, they will see this person again.

Overall, the song speaks about the power of memories and how they stay with us for a lifetime. The singer seems to be reminiscing about a former love, but the sentiment applies to all aspects of life. Memories are one of the few things that we can carry with us throughout life, and sometimes, they can have a huge impact on us.

This song moves me. There is such melancholy. Ben Barnes' voice is wonderful. She still releases something other than in "Killing Bono" or "Jackie and Ryan". I imagine the life of John Whittaker's character and feel sad for him.

Being Born 44

Corrí sin rumbo
Hacia un lago desierta
Buscando lago
No me gusta la vida de los grilletes

Me vuelvo vieja guitarra
Estar en pedazos piezas
Tiré la madera en piedra
A continuación, navegué a una isla desierta

Buscando respuestas escondidas
