The band was formed around 1992, after Hurst answered an ad placed by Tom Ferriss (formerly of Moev) in a Seattle-area newspaper. The band released a 5-song EP called "Purge" before their first LP, "Affliction" came out to critical acclaim and moderate commercial success in Canada.
Though it received mixed reviews, their second LP, The Devil You Know, has been the band's greatest commercial success to date. Produced by veteran producer Sylvia Massy (Tool, Red Hot Chili Peppers), the album features a more mainstream sound than "Affliction." After their success with "The Devil You Know," the band returned to the studio with another veteran producer, Bob Rock (Metallica, Motley Crue), to create their third LP, which became "Brand New History."
While "Brand New History" was a moderate commercial success, it received mixed critical reviews. Following the release of the album's first single in 2001, "Make It Right," the band went on hiatus. During the hiatus, Trevor Hurst started a new band called "Hurst". However, in January 2007, the band got back together to tour with Hinder across Canada and most recently, with Three Days Grace and Seether. Their independently-released fourth LP, "Ignite," came out on January 15, 2008.

Is that what this was all about?
If I'm not right, I guess I'm worng
I maybe knew it along
I'm not crazy, I'm not blind
I'm too elegant to lie
Was off horror, blushing red
The price of scandle, sin and zen
The cost of you, the bank resents
I'm not faking our last good-bye
I'm too elegant to lie
The lyrics of the song Elegant by Econoline Crush talk about the betrayal of someone who the singer trusted completely. The words "you took me in, you sold me out" describe how the singer was first brought in by the person only to be let down and disappointed. The next line "if I'm not right, I guess I'm wrong" seems to reflect the confusion that the singer feels about the whole situation. The singer then sings "I maybe knew it along" which conveys that they had some idea about how the other person would disappoint them.
Further, in the second stanza, the singer proclaims that they're not crazy and not blind; it seems like they're trying to convince the person they're addressing in the song that they had their eyes open all this while. The line "I'm too elegant to lie" says that the singer values their honesty and sees it as a critical component of their personality. The next line, "was off horror, blushing red" seems to describe the emotions the singer felt after realizing they'd been betrayed. "The price of scandal, sin, and zen" seems to say that the singer is paying the price for trusting the wrong person, and it encapsulates the idea that betrayal can come from anywhere, even those you deem zen.
In conclusion, the song elegantly depicts how betrayal can uproot the foundation of trust and respect someone has within themselves, and the pain and confusion it brings.
