Born in Kingston, Jamaica as Ripton Hylton, Eek-a-Mouse began his foray into reggae music when he was in college, but did not begin to garner a substantial audience until 1979 with his hit "Once a Virgin". This same year, he changed his singing name to "Eek-a-Mouse", the name of the racehorse he always bet on. In 1981, he cheered up the Reggae Sunsplash Festival, which was still mourning over the death of reggae icon Bob Marley. After this, his fame continued increasing through the year 1982 until 1988, when he released "Eek-A-Nomics", his last full-length CD until 1996.
Eek-a-Mouse is a regular at the Jamaican music festival Reggae Sunsplash and often teams up with reggae duo Michigan and Smiley. He has also been featured on Christian rock group P.O.D.'s (Payable on Death) album Satellite, lending his vocals to the rock-reggae track "Ridiculous".

Don't cry, don't cry anymore
Don't you run and cry
Don't run and cry anymore
Don't you run and cry
Don't you run and cry anymore
Just because you can't find nothin
Maybe you cannot find no one
Oh, you can depend on
Don't you run and cry
Wipe those tears from your weeping eyes
Don't you run and cry
Wipe those tears from your weeping eyes
There must be a change one day
So, don't you run and cry anymore
Things cannot go the same way
There must be a change one day
But, just pray to God
And you will surely survive
Please stop your running and crying
And wipe those tears from your eyes, I say
Don't run and cry
Don't you run and cry anymore
Don't you run and cry
Don't you run and cry anymore
Don't you run and cry
Don't you run and cry anymore
All of my brothers and sisters
Who are really feeling it hard
Just put yourself in the lord
I know you could never find it hard
If you tell me you really find it hard
Then you ain't got no God at all
So, stop your running and crying
Wipe those tears from your eyes, I say
Stop your running and crying
Wipe your weeping eyes
Don't you run and cry
God will show you the way
Don't you run, don't you cry
Jah Jah will show you the way
In the song "Don't Run And Cry", Eek-a-Mouse imparts a message of hope and resilience to the listener. The repeated refrain of "Don't cry anymore, don't cry" serves as a reminder to not let despair consume oneself. The lyrics encourage the listener to refrain from running away and shedding tears, regardless of their circumstances.
The song addresses the feeling of having nothing and struggling to find something. It suggests that the absence of material possessions or the inability to find what one is looking for should not lead to despair. Instead, the listener is encouraged to have faith in finding what they need and to rely on the help and support of others. Eek-a-Mouse suggests that God or Jah Jah will provide guidance and show the way, reinforcing the idea that there is always hope and a brighter future ahead.
The lyrics also acknowledge that change is inevitable and that things cannot remain the same forever. However, the emphasis is placed on prayer, faith, and personal strength in enduring hardships. Eek-a-Mouse urges the listener to stop running and crying, to wipe the tears from their eyes, and to trust that they will overcome their struggles.
Overall, "Don't Run And Cry" serves as a motivational anthem, encouraging listeners to have faith, maintain inner strength, and refrain from succumbing to despair in the face of adversity.
