Kiss You
Eight Seconds Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lifeline, I wonder how you last so long,
You must be strong,
When I see the flowers in your hair,
And the pretty mouth with the red you adorn,

When you get close,
Ah danger senses please beware, it's so unfair
That I'm paying such a heavy price,
By looking at the garments, that you wear so well

(Chorus)
I won't kiss you if you want me to,
It's much too easy with someone like you,
In the rain or a winters night,
Just wouldn't do, it's got to be so right,
I'll kiss you when it's dangerous,
I'll kiss you then and only then,
I'll kiss you when it's dangerous,

Fine line, that's what I'm walking when I look at you,
You know it's true
Of all things the thing that I want most,
To catch you at the point where you don't have a clue.

(Chorus)
I won't kiss you if you want me to,
It's much too easy with someone like you,
In the rain or a winters night,
Just wouldn't do, it's got to be so right,
I'll kiss you when it's dangerous,
I'll kiss you then and only then,
I'll kiss you when it's dangerous,
I'll kiss you once, but never again...

(Chorus)
I won't kiss you if you want me to,
It's much too easy with someone like you,
In the rain or a winters night,
Just wouldn't do, it's got to be so right,
I'll kiss you when it's dangerous,
I'll kiss you then and only then,
I'll kiss you when it's dangerous,

I'll kiss you when it's dangerous,
I'll kiss you then and only then,
I'll kiss you when it's dangerous,

Senses beware (Back vocals)

I'll kiss you when it's dangerous,
I'll kiss you then and only then,
I'll kiss you when it's dangerous,

Senses beware (Back vocals)

Overall Meaning

The song 'Kiss You' by Eight Seconds narrates a story of a man who is captivated by a woman. The man acknowledges the strength of the woman, as depicted by the lyrics "Lifeline, I wonder how you last so long, you must be strong." He refers to the woman's beauty through the imagery of flowers in her hair, and her pretty mouth adorned with red. The man is however cautious of the woman and the impact she can have on him, as he says "When you get close, Ah danger senses please beware, it's so unfair." He admits he is paying a heavy price for admiring her from afar, by just looking at how well she wears her garments.

The chorus of the song 'Kiss You' suggests that the man is not willing to easily submit to the woman's allure. He wants to make sure that the timing and circumstances of them being together are right. The man says he would not kiss her even in the rain or a winter's night, but only when it is dangerous. He wants to catch the woman off guard and kiss her then and only then. In the last line of the chorus, it is clear that the man is adamant that he will only kiss her once, but never again. The song's lyrics convey a sense of reluctance and caution from the man, who is at the same time entranced by the woman's beauty.
