Im actually fine with the penalty for calling a time out to be that you forfeit the fight. That seems reasonable to me.

It's harsh enough that no one will abuse the system but lenient enough that if there ever is a real reason for doing it the fighter can.

Most importantly it protects the fighters by making the consequences of attacking an opponent not defending himself very high. If you attack a person that is not participating in boxing anymore you are basically just commiting assault.

Yeah...you definitely couldn't introduce a rule that says you get penalized for doing something like that to buy time. It would just be sooo difficult to write down a rule like that...it's just way more reasonable to have people get punched when they aren't defending themselves. Fighter A is getting their ass kicked, so Fighter A decides to call their own time-out, forcing a break in the action where Fighter A has ample time to gather themselves and/or recover. Fighter A loses a point for calling a time-out, but due to that time-out, Fighter A is able to recover from being rocked and ends up beating Fighter B.

How is that fair? Calling a time-out is considered quitting, and it should stay that way.

This was a case of a guy being rocked by a strike and he mistakenly turned his back. He was either hurt from the shot (very likely) and got confused or thought he legitimately heard a bell sound.

What rule or system will be in play for something like this? Are fighters simply going to be allowed to turn away mid fight anytime they choose? How will the opponent know they’re legitimately hurt or if they’re simply looking for a time out? It’s not an easy rule to implement where human heads are being rattled by knees, elbows and fists.

I dont know if it was a cheap shot or not, i dont know if Gregorian thought he heard the ring. What i know is that the big fault is on the referee , why that. Because when a fighter for any reason turn his back means that something happen and it needs protection and the referee needs to protect both fighters, a turn back and the momentum from the other fighter can lead to a fatal blow to the guy that has turn his back.

Some say bad sportsmanship on the guy hitting from behind but I say bad sportsmanship on the guy trying to bend the rules by turning his back and taking a break to recover therefore taking away his opponent's opportunity of a victory.
Murthel had to do what he had to do to secure the victory otherwise he would've gave the other guy the opportunity to recover and risk getting knocked out himself.
It's a fight you gotta take any opportunity you can to get the win because if you don't you're only giving the other guy a chance to come back and fuck you up.

You don't wait for a guy to shake it off you attack. When Jones kicked Cormier in the head and he turned around you didn't see him waiting for DC to shake it off. Probably because he is trained. If you do a sport like this and you have a hot temper, as a lot of fighters do, you just swing and don't care. Groenhart could have taken 1 swing at that dumbass who ran in the ring and laid him out, possibly severely injuring him. He made the conscious decision to not possibly kill this idiot.
