Their debut album, "Embrace the Eternal", showed a change in style as Embodyment added elements of metalcore to their death metal sound (Embrace the Eternal is one of the earliest deathcore records). "Embrace the Eternal" featured re-makes of the songs "Golgotha" and "Religious Infamy", which were originally from their demos, as well as guest vocals by Bruce Fitzhugh, vocalist for seminal Christian metal band Living Sacrifice.
After the departure of Kris McCaddon on vocals, Embodyment welcomed Sean Corbray as vocalist and recorded "''The Narrow Scope of Things''", released in 2000. This album was the band's first step away from any of the heavier metal subgenres. Instead, their sound on the album was adjusted to alternative metal with hard rock influences and was the first album to feature actual singing and some screamed vocal parts rather than any form of death vocals.
Embodyment next released Hold Your Breath in 2001, an album which saw the removal of all screamed vocals and yet more slight shift away from the remaining metal influence there had been on "The Narrow Scope of Things". Their last album, "''Songs for the Living''", released under [[XS Records]] in 2002, completed the band's transition to alternative/indie rock and was originally made as an industry demo meant to get the band signed to a major label.
Embodyment later disbanded in early 2004 to the disappointment of loyal fans.

Don't Go
Embodyment Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I was yours, I was your man
But not in your hands
Pull away, take it back,
Break your vow, call on my name
I've gone astray
Lead me on, kiss my face,
'Cause I understand
Take it off, spill your guts,
Lay it down, walk in my shoes
'Cause I'm in your hands
And I'll role your way
You have my heart in your hands
Don't go
We've come too far, hold on now
'Cause I want you
Turn away, hide your face,
Show your spine and be a man
You know what I mean
Clean the page, share the view,
Be a doll call me tonight
I'm here by the phone
Roll the dice, take a chance,
Live your life outside your box
And come to my world
Make a fist, come aboard,
Bitter the taste in your mouth
But that's how it goes
And you rolled my way
You have my heart in your hands
Don't go
We've come too far, hold on now
'Cause I want you
Say you'll stay, make my day
Don't go
Say you're mine for all time
'Cause I want you
Our souls will grow
We'll carry on
The lyrics of Embodyment's song Don't Go describe a situation where the singer is pleading with his lover to not leave him, even though they have strayed away from each other. The song starts with the singer expressing that he was devoted to his lover, but somehow has lost the grip and strayed away. He requests his lover to not leave him because he wants to be with her. The lyrics are accompanied by an upbeat and catchy melody, which brings out the sense of hope and desperation in the song.
As the song progresses, the singer urges his lover to reveal her true feelings and to not hide from her problems. He tells her to be courageous and face the reality of their relationship. He asks her to call him and to not ignore him, even if their relationship is facing challenges. He wants her to be involved and not just let it go without making an effort.
The chorus of the song has a repetitive phrase: "You have my heart in your hands, Don't go, We've come too far, hold on now, 'Cause I want you." This phrase further emphasizes his desperate plea to his lover not to leave him. He wants her to stay with him and work towards rebuilding their relationship. The song ends with the singer claiming that their love will grow and they will carry on together.
Overall, Embodyment's song Don't Go is about the fragility of love and how sometimes it can slip away. The lyrics depict a situation where one partner has gone astray, and the other is trying to hold on to the remnants of their love. It is a song about hope, desperation, and the will to hold on to love, even in the face of adversity.
