Say Something
Emma-Jean Thackray Lyrics

Before you open your mouth
Stick out your tongue
And let me look inside
I want to find (find)
What′s down your throat
Open your heart
To open up your mind
Those pearly whites
Do they really shine?
Are they even real?
They look too bright
I want to find (find)
What's deep inside (inside)
If you must speak
Show us your mind
Don′t just speak
Say something
Don't just speak
Say something
Don't just speak
Say something
Don′t just speak
Say something
Don′t just speak
Say something
Don't just speak
Say something (say something)
Don′t just speak
Say somеthing (say something)
Don't just speak
Say something (say somеthing)
Don′t just speak
Say something (say something)
Don't just speak (don′t just speak)
Say something (say something)
Don't just speak (don't just speak)
Say something (say something)
Don′t just speak (don′t just speak)
Say something (gotta say something)
Don't just speak (gotta say something)
Say something (you gotta say something)
Don′t just speak (gotta say something)
Say something (say something)
Don't just speak (gotta say something)
Say something (you gotta say something)
Don′t just speak (don't just speak)
Say something (say something)
The lyrics for Emma-Jean Thackray's song "Say something" speak of the importance of not just speaking for the sake of speaking, but of saying something meaningful and significant. The song implores the listener to open up their mind and heart before expressing their thoughts and opinions to the world. The verses ask the listener to be introspective and examine what lies deep within them, instead of just showcasing the superficial aspects like a bright smile or sparkling conversation skills. The repetition of the line "Don't just speak, Say something" acts as a reminder that words hold power, and it's essential to use that power wisely.
Moreover, the song's words appear to be a call to action, encouraging the audience to not be passive spectators in life but be active participants in their own lives. The line "Stick out your tongue and let me look inside" symbolizes the need for vulnerability and genuineness, which allows people to discover their true selves. Thus, it becomes clear that the song is not just about speaking out but speaking effectively, using one's voice to stand up for what is right, authentic and good.
Overall, "Say something" is an inspiring piece that encourages the listener to speak their truth and not just add to the noise. It reminds us that our words have a significant impact and that it's up to us to use them to make a difference in the world.

Can’t get enough of this, nothing cooler or classier than late 70s/early 80s jazz fusion with 90s acid-jazz flavour. Emma’s voice is brilliant, the perfect compliment to this genre of music.

it's giving "Return to forever" vibes! I thank my father for exposing me to a wide range of musical genres, fusion being one of them.

@@shadymercury Yes, RTF were great Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Al Dimeola,… I had a couple of their pioneering 70s jazz-rock fusion albums back in the 90s, before they were stolen along with my CD player in a burglary. TBH, I preferred their way of playing to Weather Report, loved Chick on keyboards and Synths, el maestro!
