1) Emmi Kangasj… Read Full Bio ↴There is more than one artist sharing the name Emmi;
1) Emmi Kangasjärvi is a Finnish singer-songwriter who sings in English. She was born on October 10, 1979 in Vilppula, Finland. She became famous thanks to her single Breakable, which was released in February 2001. In May 2001 her second single Crashing Down and her debut album Solitary Motions were released. Two other quite well known songs from that album are Green Car and Solitary Motions. She was nominated as the Best Nordic Act by MTV Europe Music Awards in 2001. However, the award was won by the Danish band Safri Duo.
There are two versions of Emmi's second album No Nothing. The first one was released only for Finnish market in October 2002. The second one was released for international as well as Finnish market in early 2003. The differences between the versions are the order of songs and the fact that the second version contains two tracks that are not contained in the first version, namely Into The World and World Is Crazy. Conversely, the song Toss Me Down is contained in the first version but not in the second one.
The single Eileen was released in 2005. On October 5, 2005, Emmi's third album Can Full of Joy was released.
2) Emily Joy Green, known by her stage name Emmi, is a British-Australian singer and songwriter.
Emily Green was born in Torquay, Devon, England, the middle child of an older brother and a younger sister. The daughter of a pilot, she travelled extensively as a very young child, living in far flung places such as Papua New Guinea and Alice Springs. Moving school nine times before settling in Perth, Australia, Emmi got used to feeling like the outsider and began to focus on her love of dancing, and left home at the age of 16 to study dance full-time in Sydney.
Green began her musical career after being signed to a music publisher in Australia, writing songs for Neil Davidge of Massive Attack and Little Nikki.
Green cites classical music, jazz and Shirley Temple movies as her influences.
WAKE ME UP
Emmi Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I like to be, like to feel incomplete
Enjoy to be like I am and always will be
Best things are free
I believe, I believe
I like to hear honesty, no lying
I like to feel my thoughts, see them flying
Somebody please shake me
Somebody please wake me up
Somebody please
Wake me up, wake me up
I wouldn't take up my time, with trophy hunting
I wouldn't say empty words, no flaunting
I can not stand anymore, I keep on looking
For something real I can feel, I can feel
I won't give in to this world, keep on fighting
I won't get nothing for free, no use applying
I won't agree to the fact, the pain is growing
I like to be maybe little naive
Shake me up somebody please
Best things are free, I believe
I believe, I believe
Emmi's song Wake Me Up expresses her desire for authenticity and honesty in life. She likes to know herself and acknowledges that she may not be complete, but that's okay because the best things in life are free. One of her requirements in life is to hear honesty and detests lying. She finds comfort in letting her thoughts fly and enjoys the love of a child's smile. However, the song takes a darker turn when Emmi realizes that the world is not perfect, and she may not be getting what she deserves. There is pain growing inside of her, and she won't give in without a fight.
The chorus is a plea for someone to wake her up, maybe shake her out of her naive outlook and remind her of the harsh reality. The repetition of the phrase emphasizes the urgency of her request. The song's key message is about the need to stay true to oneself and fight against a world that is not always fair.
