When you said the things I didn't hear
Did you only think about the other side
When you said the things I didn't hear
I'm underneath your feet
I've been inside your eyes
I've been between your fingertips
I'm underneath
I'm lying here, blood is bleeding from your head
Onto my side of my bed
I didn't want to think of what the other said
Would believe it if you could be death?
I'm underneath your feet
I've been inside your eyes
I've been between your fingertips
I'm underneath your feet
I'm underneath
The lyrics to Eric's Trip's "My Bed Is Red" describe a hauntingly complicated relationship between two people. The singer appears to be grappling with something that was said, or left unsaid, during a previous interaction. The opening stanza implies that there was a miscommunication between the two individuals, with the singer not hearing what the other person was trying to say. There is a questioning tone, wondering if the other person was only thinking about their own perspective when speaking.
The second half of the song becomes more visceral, describing a bloody mess that appears to be happening in bed. The singer imagines blood bleeding from the other person's head onto their side of the bed, leading them to contemplate the weight of what was said. The final lines repeat the same refrain that has been throughout the song: "I'm underneath your feet. I've been inside your eyes. I've been between your fingertips. I'm underneath your feet." This could be interpreted as the singer feeling trapped or suffocated by their relationship with this other person, who they can't seem to escape from.
Overall, the song is a haunting exploration of the complexities of communication and relationships. It touches on themes such as miscommunication, emotional entanglement, and the struggle to break free from something that is stifling us.
