Face to Face
Evelyn Lyrics

Put on a great big smile
Make up your eyes with laughter
Folks will be laughing with you in a little while
Whistle a tune of gladness
Gloom was never in style
The future's brighter
When hearts are lighter
The first verse of Evelyn Knight's song "Powder Your Face With Sunshine" encourages one to put on a great big smile and use laughter to make them feel happy. The lyrics suggest that one should put on a façade of happiness using makeup and smiles, and eventually, others will join in with their laughter. The second verse suggests that the best way to face the future is with a light heart, and to whistle a tune of gladness while staying away from gloom because the future is brighter when hearts are lighter. The song reminds people that by avoiding negative emotions and focusing on positive ones, better days are ahead, and that's what smiling is all about.
The theme of the song is to encourage one to stay positive, even when things seem impossible. The lyrics offer a perfect example of how to face difficult times with positivity, and people should learn to make the best of every situation. The song is all about keeping a positive attitude, and a sunny disposition can go a long way in helping one weather any storm.

That's not necessarily a judgement-call that was made. If it sounds dated, then it sounds dated. Classical & Folk music tends to not sound dated because, acoustically, it is what it is. The "art" of recording and sound-engineering will always have it's styles and it's trends, as "art" goes. @Retro Man 88

The synthesizers are very Miami Vice sounding but everyone was loving that sound then, 1983.
