Frankly, you could not surpass SRV’s talent. This guy lived, breathed, and ate guitar. He practiced over five hours every single day. He sacrificed a productive social life and sleep for this passion. His ear was impeccable and he was able to pick up the key without even knowing what key it was in. He would just play it. You could say Einstein shared the same degree of passion in physics so it is no coincidence he became as talented as he was. SRV knew his guitar, just like how you all know how to walk. One of a kind.

i dont have many good things to say about my father but he was an absolutely amazing guitarist. and when i was a child hed always play SRV and Zepplin which became some of my some of my favorite memories as a kid. The amount of emotion and soul that went into SRV's Music is unmatched.

I stopped in my tracks when I first heard "Pride and Joy" on a radio in an aircraft hangar as a young mechanic in Jacksonville FL in 1983... I recognized the sound right away... Dirty Stratocaster.
Stopped what I was doing, found a phone book... rifled thru it, got the radio station phone number, grabbed a telephone, called the radio station, got thru to the DJ, and asked "WHO THE F*CK WAS THAT?" ...DJ says "Stevie Ray Vaughan".

The one and only time I was ever compelled to stop what I was doing over a tune ...ever.

I guess your taste is just changing. I started playing guitar almost 2 years ago. Before that I'd listen exclusively to metal. But now, even though I listen to more metal than I used to, I also expanded my taste to different stuff. Classic rock, blues, jazz, funk, and a little indie. Playing guitar, I feel changed me as a person and made me more open-minded including with my music taste.

I know what you mean. Both are great, but low gain is more nuanced and takes a while before you even start hearing the nuances and then some more time before you start appreciating them. SRV's tone here is fucking tasty!

I saw Stevie perform 6 or 7 times, and when WRIF's Arthur Penhallow announced that his helicopter crashed, I had to pull the car over to the side of the road, cuz I cried like a baby...
There will never be another quite like him!
