Hearts & Minds
Farm - the Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

--------------
What they promised
Will now comes true
Don't tell me girl
You should've knew
Plastic gangsters and two bit hoods
Heading for the ninties in their kid gloves
Rolly, rolly
Heading for the prize of the king clown
They say that money's
The root of all crime
But I know people
Who just love the big time

Hearts & Minds
Hearts & Minds
Hearts & Minds
You can't have our Hearts & Minds

Tomorrow is girl

Another day
Come with me and
Forget today

Hearts & Minds
Hearts & Minds
Hearts & Minds
You can't have our Hearts & Minds

Little by little, little by little
Little by little, little by little

Hearts & Minds
Hearts & Minds

Hearts & Minds
You can't have our Hearts & Minds

Overall Meaning

The song "Hearts & Minds" by The Farm is a commentary on the social and political issues of the time. The opening lines of the song suggest that something promised has finally come true, but the singer warns their lover not to be surprised. It seems like they may have been promised something that has turned out to be negative in some way. The following lines mention "plastic gangsters and two bit hoods" and their obsession with money and fame. The singer expresses their irritation with people who believe that money is the root of all evil, but are still obsessed with the "big time." The chorus repeats the phrase "Hearts & Minds" three times in a row, emphasising that these are things that cannot be bought and sold, and should not be given away easily.

The verses mention "heading for the nineties in their kid gloves" which implies that the song was likely written in the late 80s or early 90s. During this time, there was a general sense of optimism due to the end of the Cold War and the beginning of a new decade. However, there were also concerns about the rise of consumerism and the obsession with fame and money. The line "rollie, rollie, heading for the prize of the king clown" suggests that people are willing to do anything for status and wealth, even if it means being a fool.

xabbit0508

I remember listening to this when it came out in the early 90s. Good tunes and reminded me of those bands synonymous with light punk bands. There was alot of good music that is unable to find."oh were so happy in this world" is one of them.

A C

Was in to these when they come out but for me the album hasn’t stood the test of time, over produced. They were good live though !

flachi32

I disagree, sounds great still or we just have different concepts of time!

neil herring

Souns very much of its time now, but still a good album, even if the production is a bit tinny.

Mancini Jacko

I think they have taken most of our hearts and minds though
