The Camel
Fat Freddy's Drop Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The sun is gonna shine again, yeah, I know.
After the winter's gone, I know.
The sun is gonna shine again, yeah, I know,
I know, I know, I know, I know,
Yeah I know.
I know
Somewhere across the sea.
I know, the sun is shining.
And that's good enough for me,
That's good enough for me, yeah.
No need to worry anymore,
No need to worry 'cause I know
The sun gonna break through the winter haze.
The winter haze
I know, yeah.
The sun is beating down,
Somewhere,
Far from here.
Vocalising
Watch as I drag my feet, down this tired old sleepy road.
Just let me rest up here, before I wind my way back home.
Oh-oh my tired old feet, wind dancing all around my bones.
Please let me rest up here,
Some shelter from the cold.
The sun is gonna shine again, I know.
The sun is gonna shine again, yeah, I know.
After the winter's gone, I know.
The sun is gonna shine again, yeah, I know,
I know, I know, I know, I know, I know.
My two passed out with warning, my bills are still the same, Still the same, yeah
I left the heat (?),
But you can take my money, but not my peace of mind.
The more it's over, I told you (?).
In the opening lines of Fat Freddy's Drop's "The Camel," the lead singer confidently declares that the sun is going to shine again, even if it hasn't yet emerged from behind the winter haze. He repeats this message several times throughout the song, cementing the idea that brighter days are ahead. The lyrics also touch upon the weariness of travel, as the singer describes their tired feet and their need for rest. However, even in the face of uncertainty and discomfort, the overarching message of the song remains one of hope and resilience.
The repeated refrain of "I know" is especially powerful in conveying this sentiment. It suggests that the singer has some inner knowledge or intuition that things will get better, even if they can't see it yet. The idea that the sun is shining somewhere, even if it's not visible in their current location, symbolizes the hope that there is always a brighter future to look forward to. The imagery of wind dancing around bones adds to this sense of movement and change, further emphasizing the idea that even when situations seem stagnant or difficult, there is always potential for growth and renewal.
Overall, "The Camel" is a song about perseverance in the face of adversity. It encourages listeners to keep moving forward and maintain hope in the face of uncertainty. By rooting the song's message in natural imagery and universal human experiences, Fat Freddy's Drop manages to create a powerful and uplifting anthem that can resonate with listeners from all walks of life.
