I wanna walk in the hills, of Enniskellen, I wanna feel my heels touch something real, I wanna turn my back on the forces from hell, and feel my heels touch something real...yeah everyone knows it, it’s self-evident, this world ain’t safe in human hands, territorial waters, territorial airspace, is the mind-set of this age... so I’ll walk in the hills of Enniskellen, and I’ll feel my heels touch something real, and I’ll turn my back on the forces from hell, and feel my heels touch something real
The lyrics of Fay-Ann Lyons's song "Hands In The Air" speak to the desire to disconnect from the chaos of the world, the "forces from hell," and seek out something real. Specifically, the desire to "walk in the hills of Enniskellen" represents a search for grounding and peace, away from the territorial and power-grabbing tendencies of humanity. The phrase "everyone knows it, it's self-evident, this world ain't safe in human hands" speaks to a collective awareness of the damage that humans have inflicted on the world, and the need to find something beyond ourselves to hold onto.
The concept of "hands" is central to the song, as it represents both our power to create and our tendency to destroy. The title "Hands In The Air" can be interpreted as a call to surrender, to let go of our egos and our desire for control, and instead embrace something greater. In this sense, the song is a meditation on the need for humility and connection, as we navigate the complexities of human existence.
Overall, "Hands In The Air" is a deeply introspective and insightful song that encourages listeners to consider their place in the world and the ways in which they can contribute to a more peaceful and harmonious existence.
