When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
At the moment my eyes were struck by the sudden burst of brightness from a neon sign

That split the night
Which divided the darkness of the night

And touched the sound of silence.
And indirectly affected the tranquility of silence.

And in the naked light I saw
In that unfiltered illumination, I witnessed

Ten thousand people, maybe more.
A multitude of at least ten thousand individuals, perhaps even more.

People talking without speaking,
Individuals engaging in conversation without truly expressing themselves,

People hearing without listening,
Individuals hearing sounds without actively taking in or understanding the meaning.

People writing songs that voices never share
People composing songs that are never shared or vocalized by their voices.

And no one dare
And not a single person possesses the courage

Disturb the sound of silence.
To disrupt the peacefulness found within silence.

"Fools" said I, "You do not know
"Foolish individuals," I proclaimed, "You lack awareness

Silence like a cancer grows.
That silence can spread and intensify like a destructive disease.

Hear my words that I might teach you,
Listen to my words so that I can impart knowledge upon you,

Take my arms that I might reach you."
Accept my support so that I can connect with you."

But my words like silent raindrops fell,
However, my words remained unnoticed and had no impact, much like silent raindrops descending.

And echoed
And reverberated

In the wells of silence
Deep within the depths of silence.

And the people bowed and prayed
And the individuals lowered their heads in reverence and offered prayers

To the neon god they made.
To the idol they created in the form of neon signs.

And the sign flashed out its warning,
And the sign illuminated to convey a cautionary message,

In the words that it was forming.
In the words it was displaying.

And the sign said, "The words of the prophets
And the sign declared, "The utterances of the visionaries

Are written on the subway walls
Are inscribed upon the walls of underground train stations

And tenement halls."
And the run-down buildings where multiple families reside."

And whisper'd in the sounds of silence.
And quietly conveyed amidst the hushed nature of silence.
