La la
Flying Circus Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Trippin' down the stairs tippy-toeing in the dark
Trying to make sure your toy poodle don't bark
(chipmunk voice)[1,2,3,4 la la what you waiting for?]

La la, can't you come down?
Your mumma's not awake and your daddy's outta town, oh baby
La la, come out tonight
Temperature's groovy and the moon's outta sight

Trippin' down the stairs tippy-toeing in the dark
Trying to make sure your toy poodle don't bark
1,2,3,4 la la what you waiting for?

La la, don't make me wait
I got enough gas to get us out to the lake, oh baby
La la, gosh you look great
We'd never come back if I had my way

It's kinda rough riding in my old '63
But it's been running good since you been looking at me
1,2,3,4 la la what we waiting for?

La la, don't you know-oh yet
Making love is better than the late late show, and baby
La la, don't be so slow
I got the feeling that our love's gonna grow

Hush now baby, slip away baby
Hush now baby, tippy-toe baby
La la la la la la la la
La la la la laaaa

La la, can't you come down?
Your mumma's not awake and your daddy's outta town, oh baby
La la, come out tonight
Temperature's groovy and the moon's outta sight, and baby
La la, don't you know-oh yet
Making love is better than the late late show, and baby

La la, don't be so slow
I got the feeling that our love's gonna grow

Overall Meaning

The Flying Circus's song La La is a playful and flirtatious tune about two young lovers sneaking out at night for a romantic tryst. The song begins with the singer tripping down the stairs, trying to be quiet so as not to wake their partner's toy poodle. The chipmunk-like voice singing "1, 2, 3, 4 la la what you waiting for?" creates a sense of urgency and excitement, urging the lover to come down and sneak out with them.

The lyrics are filled with innuendos and playful references, such as "I got enough gas to get us out to the lake" and "making love is better than the late late show". The singer is eager to spend time with their partner and wants to make the most of the night, hinting at the possibility of a future together by saying they "got the feeling that our love's gonna grow".

Throughout the song, there is an underlying sense of both excitement and danger, as the two lovers sneak out in the dark, risking getting caught by their parents. However, the carefree and adventurous spirit of the song ensures that the listeners are rooting for the two young lovebirds to have a successful and fun night together.

A bass guitarists dream? He's carrying the thing! Love it!!

@pamelahay6242

The joke in this clip however is that Doug Rowe, bass playing here, was actually their lead guitarist. ๐Ÿ˜†

They Were A Good Band With A String Of Good Hits

@pamelahay6242

Yes they were an excellent โ€œ liveโ€ band with a lot more serious repertoire than Hayride and LaLa.
I loved their covers of the Buffalo Springfield ; (Stephen Stills & Neil Young).

Can I come with you Jelte Hanssen ? :)

Both La La and Hayride were written by Mac Gayden who also wrote Everlasting Love (#1 hit in the UK) and Rainbow Valley for The Love Affair. And get this.... Mac Gayden is also the guy who played that amazing quirky wah-wah guitar on JJ Cale's Crazy Mama, something I always thought JJ Cale himself did.

Gosh and hasnโ€™t Everlasting Love survived the decades and the generations? It has such an uplifting, optimistic vibe to it. ๐Ÿ’•

When I think of Bubblegum music I think of music like this. I have not heard this before and it's pretty good. The song I best know them for was from an old compilation LP from about 1970. I think the song was named Run, Run, Run.

James Wynne played in Bathurst in the 90s with a band called Pig Iron Bob. He left the band and was replaced by Doug Rowe, who played with the band until his death. Proud to say I got to see them both perform many times, I was a huge fan of that band.
