Ferry 'Cross the Mersey
Frankie Goes to Hollywood Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Life goes on day after day
Hearts torn in every way
So ferry 'cross the Mersey
'Cause this land's the place I love
And here I'll stay
People they rush everywhere
Each with their own secret care
So ferry 'cross the Mersey
And always take me there
The place I love
People around every corner
They seem to smile and say
We don't care what your name is boy
We'll never turn you away
So I'll continue to say
Here I always will stay
So ferry 'cross the Mersey
'Cause this land's the place I love
And here I'll stay

And here I'll stay
Here I'll stay

Wonderful version, brings back so many things back to memory. FGTH was one of the greatest gigs in the eighties. Too short a career, if you ask me. But "Shooting stars never stop, even when they reach the top."

@martinbaines9608

I completely agree. Brilliant band, but it seems they hated each other. Better a small and perfect catalogue though than going on forever with quality suffering

@garedesaintbeat

@@martinbaines9608 Perfect it is.

I’ve only recently heard this properly and all I can say is I bloody love it!! Ik it’s a cover of the original but I just absolutely adore their take on it, using the LinnDrum machine to give the slow tempo of the beat and the synthesizers to give the tone and harmony just beautiful and incredible.

Life goes on day after day...

RIP Gerry Marsden (songwriter).

@WiesenBerg69

What a wonderful song, great voice, tune and sounds, and what a nice declaration of love to the Mersey ... Nearly I had forgotten this beautiful track ... Thank you for posting it here!

@jonahtitchmarsh4930

Never realised when I was young that this, Do You Know The Way To San Jose and Born To Run were cover versions. They are all better than the originals.

@martink2875

I don't usually listen to covers, but when I do, I choose Frankie Goes To Hollywood 🍾

@ArbeiterInnenlieder

A nice version of a great tune. Though I absolutely prefer what FGTH did with Born To Run. It was their version that really opened y eyes for Bruce Springsteen. Holly Johnson is on of the absolute best singers ever.

@sergemeyer9359

Une pure merveille, FGTH for ever, vous nous manquez tellement !!!!!
