The band first experienced chart success when their second single "Take Me Out" reached #3 in the UK Charts, followed by their debut album Franz Ferdinand which entered the UK album chart at #3. The band went on to win the 2004 Mercury Music Prize and two BRIT Awards in 2005 for Best British Group and Best British Rock Act. NME named Franz Ferdinand as their Album of the Year. From the album, three top-ten singles were released, "Take Me Out", "The Dark of the Matinée" and "This Fire". The band has also received several Grammy Award nominations.
The band is named after Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria whose assassination was one of the main reasons for the start of the First World War. The band decided on the name after seeing a racehorse named Archduke Ferdinand win the Northumberland Plate in 2001, eventually coming to the decision as the alliteration and sound of the name appealed to them.

Lift my head, I'm still yawning
When I'm in the middle of a dream
Stay in bed, float up stream (Float up stream)
Please, don't wake me, no, don't shake me
Leave me where I am, I'm only sleeping
I don't mind, I think they're crazy
Running everywhere at such a speed
Till they find there's no need (There's no need)
Please, don't spoil my day, I'm miles away
And after all I'm only sleeping
Keeping an eye on the world going by my window
Taking my time
Lying there and staring at the ceiling
Waiting for a sleepy feeling...
Please, don't spoil my day, I'm miles away
And after all I'm only sleeping
Ooh yeah
Keeping an eye on the world going by my window
Taking my time
When I wake up early in the morning
Lift my head, I'm still yawning
When I'm in the middle of a dream
Stay in bed, float up stream (Float up stream)
Please, don't wake me, no, don't shake me
Leave me where I am, I'm only sleeping
The song "I'm Only Sleeping" by Franz Ferdinand is a cover of The Beatles' original tune. The lyrics of the song depict a person's love for sleep and how they enjoy floating in their dreams. The first two lines of the first verse ("When I wake up early in the morning, Lift my head, I'm still yawning") show how the person is sleepy even in the morning, and the next two lines ("When I'm in the middle of a dream, Stay in bed, float up stream") talk about how they enjoy their dreams and don't want to wake up from them.
The second verse ("Everybody seems to think I'm lazy, I don't mind, I think they're crazy, Running everywhere at such a speed, Till they find there's no need") displays the lazy attitude of the person and how they don't care about what others think of them. The line "Please, don't spoil my day, I'm miles away" shows how the person is in a relaxed and peaceful state of mind and doesn't want any disturbance.
The bridge of the song ("Keeping an eye on the world going by my window, Taking my time, Lying there and staring at the ceiling, Waiting for a sleepy feeling...") reveals how the person enjoys watching the world outside from their window, taking their own sweet time, and waiting for a sleepy feeling to overcome them.
