I Want To Know
Fugs Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Or break open
Our veins
Solely to know
Solely to know
Solely to know
Hunger
To feel
All of the skin
All of the skin
All of the skin
The thrill
Of the knowing
Has me
Out of my brain
I want to know
I want to know
Into our eyes
Hundreds of flash
Cause us to feel
The life in the sky
I want to know
I want to know
We drink
Or break open
Our veins
Solely to know
Solely to know
Solely to know
I want to know
I want to know
Please let me know
I have to know
Solely to know
Solely to know
The Fugs' song "I Want to Know" explores the human desire to seek knowledge and experience life to the fullest. The lyrics suggest that some individuals are willing to go to extremes, such as drinking or breaking open their veins, in order to gain insight into the world around them. The hunger to uncover new information and sensations is what drives them onward. The thrill of the unknown consumes them, and they become out of their minds in their pursuit of understanding.
The song also touches on the idea of human connection and how it can amplify one's perception of the world. The hundreds of flash in people's eyes represent the multitude of experiences that they have had that have shaped their view of life. By sharing these experiences, humans can feel the life in the sky and gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their surroundings.
Overall, "I Want to Know" is a poetic representation of the desire for knowledge and how it can lead individuals to explore the unknown.

The Fugs' second LP was a flat out game changer for me. I picked up a copy when it was first released. That otherworldly, dreamscape atmosphere sounds like something from the 11th century. Combine that with the straight ahead garage rock of Frenzy and Group Grope and some thought provoking lyrics that ultimately are more cerebral than shock value, and you have one of the most perfect albums ever made.

This song nearly explodes my brains out...i gotta watch out 'cause i could literally have a panic/psychotic seizure...for me it was 1982 i believe...'thanks Rob, you perv'! Saving grace is that this song ain't demented and is truly quite beautiful...it can link me sentimentally to my former self. There is not a precise word for this feeling in the English language, but maybe it could be described as nostalgia with peril, or extreme emotional attachment from the past that exposes deep dread somehow...maybe traumatic nostalgia..

perhaps it's just deep-seated regret that explodes my heart into pieces... while simultaneously, my geriatric mind grasps for some image or like a kind of memory to behold...let's have another listen to make sure...!!

I'll loop this for hours until morning...ya, that's right!
