After releasing a series of moderately successful mixtapes between 2010 and 2011, Future signed a major label deal with Epic Records and fellow American rapper Rocko's A1 Recordings, which helped launch his own label imprint Freebandz. Future subsequently began working on his debut studio album "Pluto," and in April 2012 released the album to positive reviews. The album spawned five singles, all of which charted on the Billboard Hot 100. The album was later re-released in November, as "Pluto 3D." His second studio album "Honest," was released on April 22, 2014, and is also performing with his group Freeband Gang. He released his highly anticipated third studio album, "DS2," on July 16, 2015. The Atlanta rapper also released several mixtapes during 2015, "Beast Mode" in January, "56 Nights" in March, and "What a Time to Be Alive (with Drake)" in September. Future released "Purple Reign" in January 2016. The 13-track mixtape was executive produced by Metro Boomin and DJ Esco, with additional production from Southside, Zaytoven, and more.

The song "Long Live the Pimp" by Future feat. Trae the Truth is a tribute to Pimp C, a rapper and producer from Texas, who died in 2007. The lyrics are full of references to Pimp C's music, style and personality, as well as to the Southern hip-hop scene he was a part of. The song starts with the lines "Drinkin' on Texas (syrup), parkin' lot flexin'/Bumpin' UGK, motherf*cker", which celebrate Pimp C's love for Southern rap and its signature drink, "syrup" (also known as "lean" or "purple drank"). The reference to "UGK" refers to "Underground Kingz", the duo formed by Pimp C and Bun B, who were pioneers of Southern rap in the 1990s.
Throughout the song, Future and Trae the Truth describe their own experiences in the South, using Pimp C's legacy as a backdrop. They mention "Port Arthur", "Cadillac", "Texas" and "Johnny Dang", all of which are symbols of Southern culture and lifestyle. The chorus repeats the phrase "Long live the pimp, motherf*cker", which is a tribute to Pimp C's status as a legend in Southern rap and a reminder of his influence on Future, Trae the Truth and many other artists.
The song "Long Live the Pimp" was released in 2015 and is part of the album "The Diary of Johnny Blaze", which was inspired by the life and work of Pimp C. The song was produced by Honorable C-Note, a producer from Atlanta who has worked with many Southern rappers. The music video for the song features footage of Pimp C and his collaborators, as well as scenes of Future and Trae the Truth performing in front of a car dealership. Overall, the song is a powerful tribute to Pimp C's legacy, his music and his personality.
