Sears sold housing "kits". All pieces were included, boards were cut and numbered, so you'd build the frame according to the instructions. Then you could add the electrical wiring (everything included in the kit) and the plumbing (everything prefitted, just refit and hook up. All windows, doors, trim, flooring, wall paper, cupboards were in the kit. So basically, you bought a house in a box, everything cut, fitted, measured and all set to go! Some of the Sears houses were just beautiful. This house looks like someone added on to it. Wish they would sell kits now. Would certainly make houses more affordable!

I worked at Sears at 17 years old back in 1998 and I used to hear about how they used to have these big catalogs that sold a lot kinda like how someone referred to it as an Amazon…but I had NO idea they sold kits to build your own house that is so cool! 💯🥰

I really wished we were able to see if there was something behind those walls in that first house. Just the way those walls looked, i felt that maybe there was something hiding behind the walls. And I wouldn't be surprised if someone was staying in that second house since there was so much stuff including foods and a gun in their. Glad you guys decided to get out of that house and were safe.

My house is a Sears house! I was raised in it, my Dad was, his mother was...my Great-Grandparents bought it from the original owner when it was less than 10 years old. Must be 100 years old now! These houses were made to last!

In the first house, that was probably a root cellar back in the day, it is the prefect place to store root vegetables and/or canned goods. And other things that keep best in cool, dark places. House #2-Such a grand house. The inside actually looks a bit better than the outside. I surprised it's not been tagged, very glad to see that. Do you guys know if the famous person moved, or did he die? What happened to him? The loaded gun and remnants of a meth lab, if that is what that is, are really scary. Safety first. Glad you left. But, at least, you was still able to capture the features of the house and show off the art. Sad that the art got left behind, though. Good explore, thanks for sharing.

I think that it’s awesome that Sears made an entire house! Intricate features such as the porch spindles! That room that you found was odd!!!😳 Maybe the Police should be notified to do a search in that home at some point!?!?! I wouldn’t open up that wall on my own though!!! 😳😖 Not a bad house for coming out of a catalog!!! That second house, while beautiful, with great possibilities, was demented!!! Very strange! Like you said… too neat for a homeless person & too organized for a hoarder… who’s left…a drug manufacturer 😳 That’s what I think was happening there😢 Sad as it is to see…I think that while they were manufacturing, they stayed there😔 Too bad that, that house was not bought, fixed up to it’s full potential & lived in once again 😞 A gorgeous home going to waste 😢😔😞 I love any & all of your videos, Steve…5 or 55 minutes!!! My grandparents had a Sears home purchased and built in 1915. I kept all the documents and plans. 1500sq home and the entirety of materials came to $938.

What would 938 dollars equate to today after 106 years of inflation and cost adjustment.

Just did some research and found an adjustment calculator. 938 dollars then would be around 25354.17 dollars today. Still a damn good deal if you had a plot of land to build it on.

Oh, I wonder who lived in the second house, who was a famous artist!! No idea 🤷🏻‍♀️. The second house was lovely, and with some TLC it will look beautiful again. The ceiling roses on the ceiling was strange though. The first house was definitely strange with a big boarded up area in one of the rooms. I would have thought if it was a body it would have been smelling badly? Thanks Steve, two wonderful properties to view, loved it. 💓

Interesting info about the Sears Homes.. great way for people to have their homes built. Wonderful drone pics.. great entry…. No vandalism! Last date lived in, is this known? The first house can be renovated. The upstairs bedroom. The seal section could be stairs to the attic. The area that goes under . Could be a root cellar maybe?

Not lady bugs they are asian beetles that we get every fall. And yes there is a lot of them. When they migrate they come through the southern states. I live in AR and they get pretty bad around here. They can live in the attic all winter long then move out in the spring. It is crazy.

I'd love to find an old place like that-- in a decent area-- I'd go to the county assessor's office and find the tax records-- you'd have the complete list of owners, etc. and I'd contact them- to see if they'd like to sell-- and rework it-- OR get the basic floorplan and photos and build a new one like it.

That room with the ceiling roses is so beautiful. Victorian houses had them in the centre of the main rooms.

There is probably an answer to your query about the ceiling with the chandelier in the centre. The other decorations are called medallions and they're still used today.. :)

I think that small celler was a root cellar. Most kept caned foods, and vegetables in them because they were colder than in the house. That's why all the canning jars on the floor.

Shame such a nice place is left to rot.

The Sears houses were cute & functional in my opinion. That second house definitely had squatters living in there but I'm pretty sure they used the microwave and things for their kitchen, not one thing in there looked like a meth lab but yes it probably was a good idea to get out

Those mud tubes on the door weren't wasps. Those are termites. And if you see as many as the ones that covered the walls in that room you need to be careful walking across the wood flooring cause it's close to caving!

How do you know the gun was loaded if you didn't pick it up and check the clip? It could have been there a long time.
