The lyrics of GTA & TJR's "Mic Check" are an invitation to the crowd to get wild and energetic. The phrase "Is this thing on?" at the beginning of the song could be interpreted as a way to get the audience to pay attention and listen up. The lyrics that follow are calls and responses urging the crowd to make noise and bounce. The repeated phrases of "woo" and "hah" and "hell" and "yeah" are simple but effective ways to get the audience pumped up.
The lyrics also demonstrate the role of hype men in hip hop music. A hype man is a performer who supports the lead artist by engaging the audience and building energy during live performances. In "Mic Check", the lyrics are spoken by a hype man, highlighting the importance of their contribution to the live performance experience.
