Here's my theory on the assassination attempt

Salvatore knew Toni wouldn't approve the idea and he'd try to warn Claude, so he asked Joey to setup the car bomb instead (Which makes sense as Joey is a mechanic, he could source a Cheetah easily). It's very likely that after Claude is sent off to pick up the car, Salvatore slips up about the plan so Maria was able to page Claude before he is killed.

Due to how the mission Sayonara Salvatore is setup, there's a high chance that the Leone never found out who killed Salvatore, as Claude is positioned to snipe him from the rooftop across Luigi's S3x club. Toni likely learned about Claude surviving the assassination attempt soon after this mission, but he is unwilling to blame Claude for killing Salvatore (Maria wouldn't tell him about the deal with Asuka). He had to choose a scapegoat to ensure the family wouldn't fall apart, so the Leone is given orders to shoot Claude on sight if he's spotted around their territory. As for why the Leone doesn't actively come after Claude, it's likely that Toni came to conclusion that it'd be too much of a hassle given Claude's capability plus his own history dealing with hitmen from his own Ma, so he took the wise option of just marking Claude for death but never sent hitmen after him.

Let's not to forget that Cj used to boost cars for Joey while he was in Liberty City and uses that trust to get close to rob the Leone family casino in Las Venturas. So I can imagine that Salvatore would be mad at Joey for getting Cj involved in the business.

Nah, that would be dumb, how would Joey know? Additionally, CJ helped Joey before he ever knew that they're gonna rob Caligula and that it's under Leone family. Sure, Salvatore could snap at Joey at heat of the moment, but that's about it, I doubt he would go out of his way to accuse Joey of causing the incident entirely, just because CJ helped Joey out.

I personally feel like Toni would’ve stood up for Claude. Whenever I saw him in cutscenes, he seemed different than most of the other characters that interacted with Claude. In other words Toni had a mutual respect for him. Even though Claude killed Salvatore, I don’t know for sure how Toni would’ve reacted but I don’t think he is the one who became the boss of the Leone family. In fact, maybe there was no new boss after Salvatore was killed. The hitmen probably just kept going after Claude and trying to kill him because that’s the order Salvatore made when he was still alive. At least that’s what I think.

Toni could've taken over as head of the Leone Family since Joey had no interest. In GTA 4, Jon Gravelli is the head of the Gambetti Family despite him being the nephew of the original leader. As for Toni's weight, he was eating right once he moved back in with his mother, also with him being a capo, he didn't really have to physically get involved since he could have soldiers or hired guns do the job instead. The only time he did get involved was when Joey introduced him to Claude

@AlejoConejo2209 it's called GTA IV because it is 4th main installment in the series. The argument of 'why call it 4 it it is not continuation of last games' stories' is dumb, seeing how GTA 3 had nothing to do with previous game aswell. GTA is not a series with a single ongoing story, it's more like Final Fantasy: every game has its own self-contained story, with maybe few nods to previous games sprinkled in. Even the games in GTA 3 trilogy follow this trend, yes, the games take place in same universe, but besides that and few characters appearing or being mentioned inbetween those games, the stories are self-contained. Events of Vice City do not directly affect San Andreas, and San Andreas does not directly affect GTA 3. Only LCS and VCS broke the curve by being prequel stories leading nearly directly to 3 and VC, but even despite that the stories of those games are made in such a way that you don't need to play them to understand what happens in 3 and VC and vice versa. GTA was never about creating a huge story spanning among multiple installments, but independent stories loosely connected in the same universe (be it 2D, 3D or HD universe).

I last played lcs as a kid but when watching your play through I realised how tragic the storyline of tony and toshiko was, two people from different cultures in a violent world but yet they still had a human connection (almost romantic). I think this game was definitely one of the better written in the series.

22:34 I would say "no". Because here's a theory i have, if Toni ever bumps into Claude, i think Toni would rather brainwash Claude into becoming a Leone instead of directly killing him. Because, Toni sees Claude as a precious jewel. I mean in some missions that's given by Toni. Claude does some very dangerous stuff to do just for Toni.

And Toni is very satified with Claude, and killing a Golden Goose is a lose that's more diffuclt then brainwashing and turning them into their own part. So yeah, that's my speculations.

Essentially, Toni does become the Boss after Claude kills Sal, but the Leone mafia never really find out who killed him (due to the nature of the mission, Claude snipes Sal from a far away position). With Toni in charge, he needed to use Claude as a scapegoat for Salvatore's killing to prevent the Leone mafia from falling apart. But he never outright hires hitmen on Claude (like mist mafia's probably would in this situation), and its evident in the game where the Leone only shoot at you in their turf, but you are never pursued by assassins. Toni respects Claude, I'm sure he sees him as a younger version of himself (when he just came back to Liberty City). He's can't accept that Claude killed Sal, because he truly doesn't know, so he only marks him as a dead man but never sends hitmen after him. Mafia shenanigans at its finest, that's why Toni and Claude are my favourites.

Actually, the Leone Family beef with the Triads can be traced back to 1992. In GTA San Andreas, one of the Triads Associates, Carl Johnson, works briefly for Salvatore Leone as a hitman, killing a group send by the Forellis to kill Salvatore, before being sent to kill Marco Forelli in Liberty City. This allows Carl to gain Salvatore' trust, who tells him to lay low for a while following the hit. Carl takes to opportunity to carry on a heist in the Caligulas Casino, in which Salvatore had a stake on. Tthis can also be pointed as the cause for Salvatore' paranoia in LCS, in which he points a gun to Toni, think he's been saying things behind Salvatore' back, when Toni wasn't.

I don't think Joey became the boss of the Leones cuz like Salvatore said that Joey doesn't fit in the game. Like he was an outsider doesn't want to be included in the mafia even he was the son of the Don. I think Toni is the boss cuz like Salvatore said he was better than his own Son. I like to think after Salvatore's death the Leone crime family fell apart. The mob doesn't have an underboss or a consigliere. Without this it'll suffer from infighting on who should rule. It won't last for long, and any other aspiring mob could sweep in and clean house easily. The Leone crime family is finished by the time Claude killed Salvatore. Its only a matter of time.

I think the mafia is disorganized after Salvatore's death. The Leone family does not have an underboss and consiglieri. It is quite possible that a civil war and a power struggle between the fictions of Tony and Joey may break out. Or after Salvatore's funeral, when he was reunited with his first and only beloved wife (she died before San Andreas) family members like Joey, Toni, Luigi, Mickey, Uncle Leone and other family members decided to discuss the division of Don's inheritance and peacefully disband. And there is one good consolation in this section of the inheritance. Do you know what it is? Maria has nothing from this rich Salvatore’s inheritance, not a single stinking cent. The Leone family, especially Joey and Tony, not only automatically kicked Maria out, but also included her on their death list. Joey and Tony will crave Maria for the cruelest vendetta. Even if I hate Salvatore and Leone Family, Salvatore is one of the most overrated and annoying characters, Mafia never forgets and Mafia never forgives.
Maria got lucky that she had Asuka as a protector and a patroness. I wish she could ask Asuka to drive her to the boat near Francis International Airport runway on which she can fade away Liberty City forever, lay low and hide. Maybe to come back in San Andreas or go to Vice City? Where he eyes look.

I like Tony he was one of my favorite GTA characters. Also, the Sopranos took place in New Jersey (Near New York City) and Liberty City is based on NYC, but I definitely agree that Toni C was similar to Tony S. I always liked the Leone Family Mafia in the GTA universe. Probably because I am Italian but they were the first gang I played for almost 20 years ago. In addition to The Sopranos reference, I've also heard that GTA 3's Toni was loosely based on Paul Cicero from Goodfellas. Which is kind of funny, as Paul Sorvino's appearance in Goodfellas was an inspiration for Fat Tony in The Simpsons.

Salvatore also criticizes his own son in LCS saying "... Even my son don't got it so good" that alone will mark his distrust in his own son and that remark would make it to his people making Tony no competition in taking the title of the Boss, Tony would've also appointed Mikey as a Capo and so does Luigi

I'm almost certain (probably obvious) that 8 ball knew that Sal was going to try to kill Claude, but there is also the possibility that Sal did not disclose anything to 8ball as 8ball himself tries to keep questions to a minimum. (ex: who is the bomb for? ) while it wouldn't really concern him, sal does not exactly hide details when he tells Claude what to do, like when he tells them (go kill triads) so it's possible that out of anger sal might have told 8ball that its for someone who betrayed the family. I hope that made sense lol, let me know if there is anything i should clear up

Considering Toni in GTA 3 was his first incarnation, I doubt they thought much past that. And the choice to make him thinner in LCS I think was just to emphasise the passage of time. I don't think they needed to go that far to depict it, but they did. Also Toni tends to be the female spelling, don't see many guys with Toni, but then I'm not surrounded by Italians.

Heyo, sorry if I’m late, I wanted to interject on the point where Tony didn’t say anything about the hit on Claude; I can understand the situation, but there’s one problem — Salvatore. The man is very unhinged and high on power. If Tony didn’t go any further with the 1 million dollar request, then there was no chance he could’ve interfere with the hit on Claude.

Plus, the hit could be taken off, since Tony did get one from his own twisted mother and that went away by the time he was going to be a made man, but that might’ve been an entirely different situation (some psycho wench versus the paranoid boss).

Very good job !! Thanks for that good moment with interesting deductions. The storyline Gta3/LCS contain so many delicious references to mafia movies from 80-90... Tony C is also an interesting character cause he is often clumsy, find himself in many ridiculous and hilarous situations during some missions... Contributes to give him a real authenticity/singularity (and the fact he's going fat after LCS is also a symbol of succes and acomplishment in Italian culture ;)

I just love the style of your videos, and the effort you put in them. Many people just do kids content from GTA Online, like smash that sabscrib buten for more flying bikes shootin rockets, or just generally fly through missions and do "funny stuff", and they dont usually care about the lore. YouTube was really missing this type of content, as not many channels do it.

I would also love to see playthroughs and lore videos of the older Hitman games, like Silent Assasssin, Contracts, or Blood Money. As the Hitman lore is as much interesting as the GTA games, especially in the older ones.

As a fellow GTA lore Nutcase I can assure you that everything your saying is 100% correct I have always wondered if there was anybody else in the world who obsessed and cared as much about the 3-D universe Lore as much as This I know that rockstar will probably never go back to the format but it’s nice to know that after all the games ( gta3 thru VCS) we can start to pick and pull pieces and parts together that would make everything Eventually wind up in the main story timeline of the 3D GTA universe. And with the addition of dedicated modders beta hunters who look through the internal game files which I’m guilty of doing myself we can actually put even more pieces together that were never even thought to exist anyways I’m done ranting Glad I found this channel.

I’m happy that I spent the past 18 years of my life I’m 27 by the way playing this game basically since I was eight years old an unhealthy obsession to some But very satisfying when I meet other GTA nerds to care about the game and lore as much as we do

Character wise toni in gta lcs was pretty much a nobody like claude even though he could talk he still didn't question or try to do things that might help calm salvatore but salvatore always gives him plenty of jobs to do and yet toni never asks him any questions he just does it in the entire game but in gta 3 since he's in a higher rank he actually had the freedom to give claude jobs and help out the Leone family which is something I didn't notice until replaying both games, also there might be a theory that his mother actually beat him since childhood and probably had an influence on him to hate triads which is why most of his missions in gta 3 focus on killing triads

This is what happened to CJ, so if we put all of the parts together, in 1992, CJ was on world tour with Madd Dogg, so sweet defended the Grove really good, in 1996, sweet probably lived in madd dogg’s house, because of house development, and he tried defending the grove, I wouldn’t be sure if he bailed out, or died, but sweet loves the grove more than his life so more than likely, he died. R.I.P sweet, 1966-1996. So Carl might’ve moved to liberty city, I don’t think madd dogg came with him, but his money he made with woozie did, I would assume that woozie died, or gave Carl the money because they were good friends, so he is in liberty city, and he is rich, and he has a rich job, modeling for ad boards, that explains the Easter egg in gta iv, so Carl is pretty much a model at liberty city, and he might do crime still in liberty city, Joey’s fate is unknown after Salvatore’s death, so he probably trusted his good friend, and they were partners in crime, so Carl made EVEN MORE money, so at this point he was a 100 millionaire, if not a billionaire, so he might have moved back to San Andreas, or stayed at liberty city, either way, he published a book, we could assume an auto biography, maybe. That book is lesters book in his house. So we can all assume that Carl is living a great rich billionare life in 2021!

I think Toni did become the boss after sal dies and he deserves it too he did most of the work to get the leones to power every time sal had a problem Toni solved it when sal is locked up he took out the sandoccos and foreills by himself and then sal gives 500000 instead of a million so it’s fitting that he takes over

@SkiiZa Killa you have to know that GTA LCS event takes in place before GTA 3 in that time Toni Cipriani has taken a lot of weights on in GTA 3 and doesn’t have much influence in the Leone family anymore as when he was thinner in GTA LCS last time he was a Capo for the family but if he still plays a part of the family is unknown because in GTA 4 there is a poster where it says all those protagonist from GTA’s have died it says “Rip Toni”

But when it comes to the mafia it’s usually the one who is the Don’s sons who will be promoted to Don no matter of what to run this family otherwise it will change the name of the family to the one who has taken in charge in his family name

A sort of what if scenario occurs with the fan made mod “Frosted Winter” where Toni becomes the new boss after trying to assassinate Joey. And Joey goes through the mod doing various odd jobs before killing Toni and becoming boss. The mod takes place in 2002 a year after the main game.

It’s Jackie Aprile who dies of cancer in The Sopranos leading Tony to become boss (junior is named boss by Tony and the feds, but everyone aside from Juniors crew, takes orders from Tony). Richie is Jackie’s brother who appears during the 2nd season and is ultimately shot and killed by Tony’s sister, Janice. Just correcting that part.

I think the Leone Family split into different factions. With Salvatore dead Joey, Luigi and Toni had pretty much the same amount of influence in the Organization. This could have lead to a power struggle.

What's interesting is that when Luigi sends Claude to Joey. He says "This is your foot in the door!!" That indicates that Joey has more pull in the family than Luigi. Then Joey introduces Claude to Tony. Then of course you drive them all to the Don aka Salvatore Leone. We literally meet the Mafia in order of position

@Alex Yglesias that makes sense Claude was born in 1970 , probably Tommy when he was working with the Forelli family , he was 20 or 21 and went to a hooker in Los Santos , and then Claude was born and in 1971 Tommy , became the hardwood butcher when he killed 11 henchmen .

Oh yeah he called a snake when he gave him the garage but He like a billionaire now so I think the feud would be over by then. He killed Catalina I think CJ would be in joy that she is dead when they where dating. I know that someone like Toni or Tommy would be very angry to see him unless there is a twist that Tommy is Claude's father.

I will do my take He would have leave to Los Santos with Maria to a Mansion in Vinewood hills cause He is a millionaire and would cross into CJ and would apologize and say that He should have dump her in 92 and killed her. They would have possibly have been allies. But since Catalina was Ceasr's cousin He would be angry and try to kill claude. Even though she backstabbed him in 2001.

I think you have mentioned in one of your previous videos that Toni is not the type of man who would question the boss' decision. Maybe that is why he didn't attempt to get rid of the hit on Claude.

R* considers games from IV and onwards in a seperate universe sadly, so they have no direct storyline connection. It was simply re-invented without having to keep anything in mind from the old Liberty Cities.

Theres a gta 3 frosted winter mod that actually has a pretty realistic and intresting storyline. Basically after salvatores death toni tries to set up joey to be killed before he becomes the new leone boss. Thinking he has killed joey he goes back to sals mansion. I dont know the whole story yet but tht alone seems very realistic to me. I could see tony wanting to be boss after all the work he put in for sal in lcs only to get paid half a mil while on joey was just stealing cars for his own buisness. Tony put in way more work for sal and the leones then joey ever could. And sal even admitted to toni once in lcs tht he was "your like a son to me, better than my own son"

My idea for a GTA story would include the SA version of the Aztecas with Caesar’s involvement, Toni Cipriani being boss of the Leones and Tommy Vercetti still ruling over Diaz’s business.

A new protagonist who is a member of the Aztecas, surviving Trevor Phillip’s crusade against them and fleeing to VC. Caesar’s Aztecas expanded to VC and the new protagonist rejoins that gang.

Tommy and Toni are good friends and do business with one another. Caesar introduces the new protagonist to Tommy who introduces him to Toni and the new protagonist does jobs for all 3 groups.

If they ever remade all the games up to Vice City Stories, I think they should hire the people responsible for the Frosted Winter mod and make that an entire game. Then there'd be closure to what happens to the other Leone members. There's a lot of mods that have potential to be their own games or at least expansion packs to others, but Frosted Winter is definitely the most impressive.

I reckon Toni got named as the boss of the family but was put under suspicion as the one who placed the hit on Salvatore. So Toni lead the family for a little while then either got kicked out or assassinated.

8-ball was definitely involved in Claude's ambush as he's was an explosives supplier for the Leones. Maybe he wasn't aware that the trap was set for Claude.

Shame that GTA IV retconned these stories when they did the HD universe. It would've been interesting to see what happened to these families. My best guess is that Toni would probably take over or they'd do something where Joey would be like the figurehead boss meanwhile Toni would be the one calling the shots behind the scenes with an official position of consigliere or underboss himself, so he can sort of keep the heat off him like Tony did for awhile in the Sopranos. Either that or it could possibly lead to civil war in the family between Toni and Joey with them both feeling like they should be heir to the boss seat. That's also a very likely scenario as well depending on who gets in Joey's ear. Either way there's more story to be told there, it's a shame it all just got cut out completely.

The transition of Vic from Vice City Stories to Vice City is way worse. It's kind of like Rockstar are telling us a life of crime and drugs are no good for you . They are they only protagonists we see in difference games, and they are always worse off (at least health-wise). Oh wait, there's Claude, too. Well, a mute who doesn't change his clothes for at least 9 years doesn't seem all that clever, either.

I think Toni was killed after the events of Gta 3 or he goes into hiding.In LCS he does a few questionable things that could of gotten misinterpreted such as:
*Hanging around Maria.
*Talking with Ned Burner (even though he didn't know)
*Killing Vincenso.
If anything the person who got to run the families after Sal would be Toni's mother. She took no crap revenge or not she sends messages.
