Fade
Gant-Man Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It never was an option
For me to not go there
I'm frightened of the ocean
But still I'm setting sails

Playing with fire lights up my way
Take my shadow be my break of day
All these voices stay in my head
Hold me closer be my break of day

Until I fade away
Until I fade away

And if I were to tell you
That life was just a game
Would you be making changes?
Or would you stay the same?

All these voices stay in my head
Hold me closer be my break of day

Until I fade away
Until I fade away
I'm gonna go my way
Until I fade away
(Until I fade away) until I fade away
(Until I fade away) until it's over
(Until I fade away) until I fade away

It never was an option
For me to not go there
I'm frightened of the ocean
But still I'm setting sails

Until I fade away
Until I fade away
I'm gonna go my way
Until I fade away
Until I fade away

Until I fade away
I'm gonna go my way
Until I fade away
Until I fade away (until I fade away)
(Until it's over) until I fade away
(Until it's over) I'm gonna go my way
(Until I fade away, until it's over)

Until I fade away
Until I fade away

Overall Meaning

The song "Fade" by Gant-Man speaks about a toxic relationship where one partner tries to control the other and constantly takes advantage of them. The opening lines convey a warning that the singer will not be around when the other partner makes up their mind and takes a stand. The partner being addressed assumes that they are running the show alone and that the singer will be there as long as they get everything they want. However, the singer reminds them that they are wrong and could be anyone, but they will not stick around for too long.

As the song progresses, the singer poses crucial questions to the partner about how many times they can go through the same routine and fade into nothingness as the "lovers" who came before them. The partner cannot ask for the singer's opinion as they cannot handle the truth and set them up for failure every time they make themselves vulnerable. Towards the end, the singer urges them to stop making the same mistakes and playing it over, which is where they got it wrong.
