As Long as I Have You
Garnet Mimms & The Enchanters Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Born in darkness
But I fought my way up to the sun
Had a lot of battles
Some I lost and some I've won

But let me tell you, girl
You ain't seen nothing yet
There's nothing in this world
That I can't get
As long as I have you (long as I have you)
Long as I have (long as I have you) you

Give me mountains to crumble
And I'll turn them to sand
Let me put this world
In the palm of your hand

Find some teardrops
But I sang my way out of the blues
Had to learn to stand up
Even when they scared me out of my shoes

But let me tell you, girl
You ain't seen nothing yet
There's nothing in this world
That I can't get
As long as I have you (long as I have you)

Long as I have you (long as I have you)

Give me mountains to crumble
And I'll turn them to sand
Let me put this world
In the palm of your hand

Say you love me
And I know that half the battle is won
Don't cha worry about nothing
In your mind the best is yet to come

But let me tell you, girl
You ain't seen nothing yet
There's nothing in this world
That I can't get
As long as I have you (long as I have you)
Long as I have you (long as I have you)
Every thing's gonna be alright (long as I have you)
And I won't have to cry no more (long as I have you)

All my troubles will be over (long as I have you)
Yeah

Thanks to Zeppelin and just hearing Roger Daltrey cover it, I finally found the original and wow it blows my mind it’s such a great song! It’s sad that I’ve never heard of this guy because his voice is so beautiful ❤️

Surprise Me Ever hear his version (the original version btw) of Cry Baby. It’s one of my all-time favorites.

Spectacular! Would never have heard of this song unless it was for Led Zeppelin bootlegs. Music comes around and round...

Thx!

Wow, this is wicked great - I can hear/see why Led Zep covered this. In 1969 it was one of their show openers (along with Train Kept A Rollin and Communications Breakdown). But this they turned into an 18 minute jam some nights. By 1970 they had switched to Ben E. King's "We're Going to Groove" to open things up, until replacing that with their own Immigrant Song later in the year.

Listen to this !  Garnets vocals can carry the weight of the world on them, & still have room for more. Dudes one of the great heroes of the mid sixties Soul/ R+B scene. Thanks for this.

this is great and I love the Zeppelin versions.

It was thanks to Led Zeppelin and their rhythm and blues medleys that they would do that I found great music like this. So enough with the fighting and lets just enjoy.

Most of Garnet Mimms hit songs did not feature any "actual" members of "the Enchanters." Most of them, featured high, in-demand session back-up singers. This is one of many of Mimms' songs which feature the Sweet Inspirations, with Cissy Houston (Whitney's mom), on back-ups. You can distincly hear Cissy on this song, "For Your Precious Love," "Cry Baby," "Baby Don't You Weap," and many more.
