Faith
George Michael (Cover) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well I guess it would be nice
If I could touch your body
I know not everybody
Has got a body like you, uhh

But I've got to think twice
Before I give my heart away
And I know all the games you play
Because I play them too

Oh but I
Need some time off from that emotion
Time to pick my heart up off the floor
Oh when that love comes down
Without devotion
Well it takes a strong man, baby
But I'm showing you the door

'Cause I gotta have faith
I gotta faith
Because I gotta to have faith faith
I gotta to have faith, faith, faith

Baby
I know you're asking me to stay
Say please, please, please, don't go away
You say I'm giving you the blues
Maybe
You mean every word you say
Can't help but think of yesterday
And another who tied me down to lover boy rules

Before this river
Becomes an ocean
Before you throw my heart back on the floor
Oh baby I reconsider
My foolish notion
Well I need someone to hold me
But I wait for something more

Yes I've gotta have faith
Unh I gotta faith
Because I gotta to have faith, faith, faith
I gotta to have faith, faith, faith

I just got to wait
Because I got to have faith
I gotta have faith
I gotta, gotta, gotta have faith

Before this river
Becomes an ocean
Before you throw my heart back on the floor
Oh baby I reconsider
My foolish notion
Well I need someone to hold me
But I wait for something more

'Cause I've gotta have faith
Unh I gotta faith

Because I gotta to have faith, faith, faith
I gotta to have faith, faith, faith

Overall Meaning

"Faith" is a song by George Michael, released in 1987. It's a pop song with funk, rock, and soul influences, and it's about the singer's struggle to trust and commit to a romantic relationship. The song is characterized by its catchy hook, upbeat rhythm, and straightforward lyrics that are easy to sing along with.

The first verse introduces the theme of the song - the singer's desire for physical intimacy with someone he finds attractive. However, he acknowledges that giving his heart away too easily can lead to pain and heartbreak, and that he's not the only one who plays games in relationships. In the chorus, Michael declares that he needs faith to build a strong and lasting connection, and he repeats the phrase "I gotta have faith" several times over a cheerful melody.

In the second verse, the singer is confronted by someone who wants him to stay and is expressing sadness at the idea of him leaving. However, he's still uncertain about whether he can trust them or if they're just trying to manipulate him. The bridge of the song repeats the melody of the chorus but with different lyrics, emphasizing Michael's determination to wait for something more and not settle for a relationship that doesn't have deep meaning.

Overall, "Faith" is a song about not rushing into love and being cautious about who you give your heart to. Its message is simple but relatable, and its catchy tune and memorable chorus have ensured its popularity decades after its release.

This man was a genius. The moves, the voice, the energy, the face, the lyrics, the melodies. Everything was there

I loved him, Prince, & Bowie with Fervor!! 💗 Still do. Only artists I love left alive are Jarvis Cocker, Thom Yorke, Jello Biafra, & Salt'N'Pepa - Oh & Darren Hayman but noone ever knows him sadly.♥
