Run
George Strait [乔治史崔特] Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If there's a plane or a bus leaving Dallas
I hope you're on it
If there's a train moving fast down the tracks
I hope you caught it

Cause I swear out there ain't where you ought to be
So catch a ride, catch a cab
Don't you know I miss you bad
But don't you walk to me

Baby run, cut a path across the blue skies
Straight in a straight line
You can't get here fast enough

Find a truck and fire it up
Lean on the gas and off the clutch
Leave Dallas in the dust
I need you in a rush
So baby run

If you ain't got a suit case
Get a box or an old brown paper sack
And pack it light or pack it heavy
Take a truck, take a Chevy
Baby just come back

There's a shortcut to the highway out of town
Why don't you take it
Don't let that speed limit slow you down
Go on and break it

Baby run, cut a path across the blue skies
Straight in a straight line
You can't get here fast enough

Find a truck and fire it up
Lean on the gas and off the clutch
Leave Dallas in the dust
I need you in a rush
So baby run

Baby run

Oh baby run
Baby run

Overall Meaning

"Run" by George Strait is a song about a man desperately wanting his lover to return to him. The lyrics speak about the various modes of transportation that could be used to reach the man - a plane, a bus, a train or a truck - and urges the lover to take any one of these and make their way back to him. The singer is so desperate to have his lover by his side, he begs her not to walk but to run to him. He is certain that wherever she is at the moment is not where she needs to be, and he can't stand the thought of her being away from him any longer.

The chorus of the song repeats the urging to run to him as fast as possible. He implores his lover to cut a path across blue skies and find a way to get to him straight in a straight line. He tells her to find a truck, to "lean on the gas and off the clutch" and to leave Dallas in the dust. The song's theme of longing and desperation is reinforced throughout, with the singer even urging her to break the speed limit if needed.

Overall, "Run" is a poignant and emotional song that speaks to the depths of a lover's longing. The strong, repeated chorus creates a sense of urgency and the lyrics evoke a sense of distance and longing that is palpable. It's a beautiful song that speaks to anyone who has ever been separated from the person they love.

I have to say hands down this is his greatest song of all time. 20 years later I still love it just as much as the first time. Don't let that speed limit slow you down, just break it. Run. That's love.

When I was locked up in California I remember this song coming on the radio at night when I was in my cell. I swear I dont listen to country music but this song is written beautifully. You have got to be a fool to not appreciate this track. It got me through some hard times feeling down on my luck. I've been out for 15 years now. I'm doing well but when I start feeling sad I come listen to this song just to hear the music and the perfect voice for it. This song is easily in my top 30 of all greatest songs.
