Pre-Debut
Member Dongjun had debuted as a soloist under the name $ept Rabbit on September 7, 2017.
In 2017, members Dongjun and Junhyung participated in the talent survival show MIXNINE. Dongjun had auditioned for the show but didn't make it past the audition round. Junhyung (listed as Son Jun-Hyeong (손준형) in the show), got eliminated at the rank of 68. During the showcase round, Junhyung was at A rank.
In 2019, Jinwoo, Junseong, Taeseung, Woojin was part of the boy group survival reality show Produce X 101. Their names in the show were listed as Lee Jin-woo (이진우), Choi Jun-seong (최준성), Lee Tae Seung (이태승) and Lee Woo-jin (이우진). At the time of the show, Junseong was part of Jellyfish Entertainment.
In episode 8 of the show, Woojin, Taesung, and Junseong were eliminated with their rankings being 41 (Woojin), 53 (Taeseung), and 46 (Junseong). The members' highest rankings were 41 (Woojin), 26 (Taeseung), and 39 (Junseong). The member's evaluation rankings were F (Woojin and Taeseung for the second one), B (Junseong in the first), and D (Junseong for the second one).
In episode 11, member Jinwoo was eliminated at the rank of 22. His highest rank in the show was 4. He had gotten a C for his first evaluation and a B for the second.
Later that year, members Jinwoo, Taeseung, and Woojin were part of Maroo Entertainment's project group TEEN TEEN.
On August 27, 2020, OSEN reported that Maroo had finished preparations for the debut of their new boy group in September. The agency confirmed the news, stating that the group will consist of nine members including members (Jinwoo, Taeseung, and Woojin) of the unit group TEEN TEEN. At 12 AM KST on September 1, a logo motion video was released on their YouTube channel, revealing the group's official name to be GHOST9.

They made their debut on September 23, 2020 their first mini album Pre Episode 1: Door. Their debut song was "Think Of Dawn". Other tracks the mini album had was: "Vision (Intro)", "Reborn", "It's Gonna Be Hot", "Lay Back" and "Flying At Night" (야간비행).
On December 10, 2020 they released the EP Pre Episode 2: W.all with the title track being "W.all". The EP also contained 5 other tracks titled: "Peace (Intro)", "Splash" (큰물에서 놀아), "Red Sign", "Focus" (한 글자도 놓치지 마) and "Way To You" (꿈길).
