How Deep Is Your Love
Gibb Barry Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know your eyes in the morning sun
I feel you touch me in the pouring rain
And the moment that you wander far from me
I want to feel you in my arms again
And you come to me on a summer breeze
Keep me warm in your love, then you softly leave
And it's me you need to show
How deep is your love, how deep is your love
How deep is your love?
I really mean to learn
'Cause we're living in a world of fools
Breaking us down when they all should let us be
We belong to you and me

I believe in you
You know the door to my very soul
You're the light in my deepest, darkest hour
You're my savior when I fall
And you may not think I care for you
When you know down inside that I really do
And it's me you need to show

How deep is your love, how deep is your love
How deep is your love?
I really mean to learn
'Cause we're living in a world of fools
Breaking us down when they all should let us be
We belong to you and me

And you come to me on a summer breeze
Keep me warm in your love, then you softly leave
And it's me you need to show

How deep is your love, how deep is your love
How deep is your love?
I really mean to learn
'Cause we're living in a world of fools
Breaking us down when they all should let us be
We belong to you and me

How deep is your love, how deep is your love
I really mean to learn
'Cause we're living in a world of fools
Breaking us down when they all should let us be
We belong to you and me

How deep is your love, how deep is your love
I really mean to learn
'Cause we're living in a world of fools

Breaking us down when they all should let us be
We belong to you and me

Overall Meaning

In Gibb Barry's song "How Deep Is Your Love," the singer wistfully reflects on a deep, intense love they share with someone. The song opens with a description of how the person knows the other intimately, not only in a physical way but also emotionally. They can feel their touch even in the pouring rain and yearn to have them in their arms when they are apart. They cherish the moments when they are together, describing how the other person's love keeps them warm on a summer breeze before they softly leave. In the chorus, the singer asks "How deep is your love?" and expresses a desire to understand the full extent of their connection. They want to learn more about this love because they feel that they are often scrutinized and belittled by others, who are only trying to tear them down.

The second verse further describes the deep bond between the two people. The vocalist describes the other person as being the light in their darkest moments and their savior when they fall. The singer explains that they may not always show their love in obvious ways, but it is always present and strong. The song returns to the chorus, again expressing the desire to fully comprehend the depth of this love in a world that often threatens to tear them apart.

Overall, the song is about the depth of love and the desire to understand it. The song's melody is simple and sweet, underscoring the vulnerability and tenderness present in the lyrics. It is a song that speaks to the heart, urging listeners to cherish and hold onto the deep connections they share with others.

The instruments are amazing too...signature Gibb.

Ever consider doing an instrumental of your songs 😊🤔
I'd love one.
God bless you Barry for turning the pain in your heart into once again something beautiful that we can share and implement into our own lives, in these latter years. I have first youth memories listening too the Bee Gees and Andy in the Teens and now coming up on 60s, once again You have brought beautiful music into my life.
I always listen to the Bee Gees, yes daily...and im thankful too share it all with my Grandchildren now.
God bless you as you continue too bless us with you.

The sound of Barry singing this really stirred my soul. His vulnerability was beautiful in this version. Little big town is just a great sound to add to it! Love this ! I have a love for Barry that most people would think “ oh she has a crush on him “ it’s more than that. I have some kind of feeling that his whole family and I are connected. It’s probably just because I’ve seen so much of them on you tube! Lol Still I think it’s the music that gets me. This was fabulous! ❤
