The band is a stalking horse for Kris Kaczor, the group's original voice and primary songwriter. The project started as a handful of acoustic songs in Kaczor's bedroom -- spare ditties about moonbeams and clouds. Enter Rory O'Connor on synths and drums, with help from Kevin Bayson on bass and trumpet. Things got less embarrassing.
The three headed to Keyclub Recording Company in late 2007 to record their debut album, Permanent Skin. Subsisting on a raw vegan diet provided by engineer Bill Skibbe (Adult, The Kills, Sea and Cake), Gigantic Hand took its time and produced an album as simple as it is layered. Like a Russian nesting Doll. Provided that doll plays electric guitar. Or suffers from indigestion.
Gigantic Hand take an odd angle of approach to pop music. Their music is simpler than it sounds on first listen. Mentally dissecting the many layers - often sub-consciously - gives "pop" to the moment, mixed with a charming nostalgia for the gutter. Theirs is a complex Muzak of the soul. Gigantic Hand's influences are not dying young and bands that add a pinch of blood.
Gigantic Hand recently added several musicians to its lineup: Evan Wood (guitar, rhodes, synths, saxophone), Eddie Pellino (guitar, accordion, vocals), and Andrew Miller (bass, vocals). Gigantic Hand now compose together, perform live and do group cardio.
The band will release their debut album, Permanent Skin, February 2009 on Triple Down Records.

The Sea
Gigantic Hand Lyrics

ones that have reached the sea.
If you focus on it
you can still see the sail
home.
In the right place of thee
you will feel the pull.
we will guide the hull.
We are not the only
ones that have reached the sea.
If you focus on it
you can still guide the sail.
The sail
home.
The lyrics of Gigantic Hand's song "THE SEA" evoke a sense of exploration, unity, and the enduring power of the sea. The opening line, "We are not the only ones that have reached the sea," suggests that humans are not the sole beings to have experienced the vastness and mysteries of the ocean. It hints at the idea that there may be other creatures or civilizations that have also ventured into the depths.
The following lines, "If you focus on it, you can still see the sail home," evoke a sense of nostalgia and longing for a familiar place. It suggests that despite being out at sea, there is still a way to find a sense of belonging and return to a comforting home. This could be interpreted metaphorically as a reminder that no matter how far we stray or how lost we feel, there is always a path back to safety and familiarity.
The repetition of the phrase, "In the right place of thee," emphasizes the importance of being in the right mindset or location to fully experience and appreciate the sea's pull. It suggests that there is a specific state of being, mentally and physically, that allows us to connect with the sea and embrace its guidance. The lyrics convey a sense of awe and respect for the ocean's power, as well as a belief in its ability to bring people together and guide them to their desired destination.
Overall, "THE SEA" by Gigantic Hand invites us to contemplate the vastness and profoundness of the ocean while encouraging us to find our own way back home, both literally and metaphorically.
