Grace Potter whose dynamic vocal ability has drawn comparisons to legends Bonnie Raitt, Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin and more recently Sheryl Crow and Joan Osborne. Her unique style behind the Hammond B-3 and piano is also gaining widespread recognition. The original lineup included Scott Tournet (guitar/slide guitar), Matthew Burr (drums/percussion), and Bryan Dondero (upright/electric bass). After Dondero parted ways with the Nocturnals in March 2009, they brought in Catherine Popper (bass) and also added Benny Yurco (rhythm guitar).

Oh what a Christmas to have the blues
My baby's gone (my baby's gone) I have no friends
To wish me greetings once again
Choirs will be singing Silent Night
Those Christmas carols by candlelight
Please come home for Christmas (please come home)
If not for Christmas by New Year's night
Friends and relations send salutations
Just as sure as the stars shine above (yes they do)
This is Christmas, Christmas my dear
The time of year to be with the one that you love
Then won't you tell me, you'll never more roam
Christmas and New Year (Christmas and New Year's)
Will find you at home
There'll be no more sorrow, no grief or pain
I'll be happy (happy) that it's Christmas once again
The song "Please Come Home for Christmas" by Grace Potter is a classic blues-inspired tune that beautifully reflects the sadness and loneliness of the holiday season. The upbeat tempo and festive melody of the song belies the sentiment and deeper meaning behind the lyrics. The song begins with the bells ringing announcing the arrival of Christmas, and the singer realizes how agonizing it is to enjoy the festive season without her loved ones. She does not have anyone to wish her good tidings, and she is coping with the blues of the lonely holiday.
The song continues with the chorus calling out to her absent lover and pleading for him to come back home during Christmas or New Year. The lyrics express the deep yearning of the singer to hold onto her love during the holiday season. The song also mentions a choir singing Silent Night and Christmas carols by candlelight, painting a vivid picture of the holiday season's beauty, making the singer's loneliness all the more unbearable. The song ends on a hopeful note, where the singer believes that her loved one will come back home, and the holiday season will bring them joy and happiness once again.
Overall, the song "Please Come Home for Christmas" by Grace Potter is a beautiful, heart-wrenching tribute to the power of love during the holiday season. Despite its melancholic nature, the song instills hope in the listeners that love and joy will prevail, even during the darkest times.
