A self-titled debut album appeared on their Kjól & Anderson imprint in conjunction with the screening of "Pleasure". The UK label 4AD Records signed the band in 1996, and released "Polydistortion" (97), "This Is Normal" (99) and "Gus Gus vs. T-World" (00).
"24/7" (09) was the first release with German label Kompakt, followed by "Arabian Horse" (11) and "Mexico" (14).
Several lineup changes have occurred, and their current incarnation consists of Stephan Stephensen (President Bongo), Birgir Þórarinsson (Biggi Veira), Daníel Ágúst Haraldsson and Högni Egilsson.
Gus Gus has had a varied lineup, including Magnús Jónsson (a.k.a. Blake), Sigurður Kjartansson (a.k.a. Siggi Kinski), Stefán Árni Þorgeirsson, Hafdís Huld Hákonardóttir, Emilíana Torrini Davíðsdóttir, Urður Hákonardóttir (a.k.a. Earth), Magnús Guðmundsson (a.k.a. Herb Legowitz a.k.a. Buckmaster DeLaCruz, The Fox, Fuckmaster, or Herr Legowitz) and Baldur Stefánsson.
After their third album, This Is Normal, the filmmaking arm of Gus Gus (Kjartansson and Árni Þorgeirsson) split off to form the production company Celebrator, now known as Arni & Kinski, which has produced award-winning advertisements and videos. A few former members such as Hafdís Huld, Blake, and Daníel Ágúst have gone solo, most notably though Emilíana Torrini.
Gus Gus's music is eclectic, and although primarily classified with techno, trip-hop and house music, they have experimented with numerous other styles. They have also remixed several famous artists, including Björk, Depeche Mode, Moloko, and Sigur Rós. Added to this they released the song Desire with Ian Brown in January 2004.

Be With Me
GusGus Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And it feels just like a prison cell
I'm trying to get sleep
With my head stuck in a vacuum shell
And I want you to be here
From the bottom of a wishing well
Be with me now
I'm turning in my bed
And my mind twists like a whirlwind hell
I'm rolling in my bed
Wrapped up in your binding spell
Be with me now
The lyrics of "Be with Me" by GusGus speak of a feeling of isolation and loneliness. The first two lines create a metaphor of the singer's bed as a prison cell. The third line suggests that the singer is struggling to fall asleep, perhaps due to anxiety or intrusive thoughts. The image of a "vacuum shell" underscores a feeling of being trapped or stuck in one's own head. The fourth line introduces the desire for companionship, with the metaphor of a "wishing well" implying a deep longing for connection.
The chorus repeats the phrase "be with me now" as a plea for the listener to fulfill this desire for connection. The second verse reinforces the idea of being consumed by a certain emotion or memory, likening it to a "binding spell." The repetition of the phrase "in my bed" in both verses emphasizes the physicality of the singer's emotional state, highlighting the way that our surroundings can exacerbate or alleviate our moods.
Overall, "Be with Me" is a poignant exploration of the human need for love and companionship, and the ways in which isolation can feel suffocating.

I love it when music can take you somewhere other than reality. When you can get lost in it. :)

This is a fucking great album! I can't believe YouTube is allowed to get away with hosting all this music. It can be totally swiped and converted to MP3. I was looking for a LimeWire alternative so thanks a million!
