Guys 'nβ Dolls were formed in 1974, after Ammo Produductions held auditions for three girls and three boys to start the band.
The six members of the new group, Paul Griggs, David Van Day, Thereza Bazar, Dominic Grant, Martine Howard, and Julie Forsyth, first met in November 1974. They released their first hit single, "Thereβs a Whole Lot Of Loving" in January 1975 (this was actually recorded by session singers, and the group were later discovered not to have actually recorded the original).
In the six years that followed, the group released several more hits, including "Here I Go Again" (1975) and "You Donβt Have to Say You Love Me" (1976). In 1978 they shared the stage with Frank Sinatra at the Royal Festival Hall in London.
In 1977 the group had a Number one in both the Netherlands and Flanders with "You're My World", formerly made famous by Cilla Black.
(By 1977, Van Day and Bazar had left the band but continued to have success as Dollar.)
Guys nβ Dolls finished as a unit in December 1985, having spent eleven years together. Grant and Forsyth performed as a duo and had another five hits in the Netherlands.
In 2006 the original six members reunited for a major Dutch television show. See http://www.p.griggsy.btinternet.co.uk/Untitled/Guys_n_Dolls_Reunited.html

Broken Dreams
Guys 'n' Dolls Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away
I keep your photograph, I know it serves me well
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain
'Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
The worst is over now and we can breathe again
I wanna hold you high, you steal my pain away
There's so much left to learn, and no one left to fight
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain
'Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
The lyrics of "Broken Dreams" by Guys 'n' Dolls depict a person deeply in love and trying to ease the pain of their loved one. The song begins by expressing admiration for the person's laughter, with the desire to hold them and take away their pain. The second verse reveals the singer is also struggling with their own emotional turmoil- feeling broken and weak when they are alone or separated from their love. Despite this, the lyrics are hopeful and suggest that the worst is over and they can move forward together.
The chorus repeats the phrase "I'm broken when I'm open" which could be interpreted as a vulnerability that comes with opening up and being honest about one's emotions. The lyrics convey the message that while love can be a source of pain and vulnerability, it is also the key to healing and moving forward.
Overall, "Broken Dreams" is a touching song about the power of love and the emotional struggles that come with it. The lyrics emphasize the importance of being open, vulnerable, and supportive with a partner to overcome hardships together.
