H.P. Lovecraft Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You and I are similar
Separate masterpieces

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in H.P. Lovecraft's song "Opening" convey the idea that two individuals may share commonalities, but each person is their own unique creation. The first line states "You and I are similar," acknowledging the similarities between the two individuals. However, the following line "Separate masterpieces" emphasizes that each person is their own individual, deserving of their own recognition and appreciation.

The concept of individualism is a recurring theme in H.P. Lovecraft's songs and writings. He believed that each person was unique, and that recognizing one's individuality was key to self-growth and awareness. In "Opening," this idea is expressed succinctly through the lyrics.

The song itself is a psychedelic rock piece and was released in 1967. It was written by George Edwards, one of the founding members of H.P. Lovecraft. The band was known for incorporating elements of horror and fantasy into their music, and their name was inspired by the writer of the same name.

Why do the characters have southern accents if the story takes place in New England?

@Vlekistan

John spella In a lot of smaller back woods communities even today all over the US people have what many consider a Southern accent when in fact it’s remnants of an antiquated early American patois. I lived in a small village in the Catskills for a couple of years right in the middle of Lovecraft country and most of the old timers as well as rural locals who didn’t venture far from home had this or a lighter version of it.

@@Vlekistan Oh wow. It's fascinating to think of the backwoods communities all over America. I was on a road trip a few years back and we took a less used route out of my state and this one town we went through felt like a time warp.

Very well done!! I did U.I.L. Prose and Poetry for 7yrs, 6th-12th grade..I always did Prose, read and acted out stories..it was my passion and I won quite a few awards..I thouroghly enjoyed your reading, presentation and overall projection of the entire video! Literally from beginning to end =) I did various works from King, Bradbury Eudora Welty, (it's a long list) but I didn't get familiar with HP Lovecraft til later in life..I would have definitely LuVd doing some of his works, if I had..I realize you get a ton of comments so I have no idea if you'll see this BUT
A) I hope I can donate in the near future
B) What's your favorite story and reading?
💜 Awesome job 💜

This guy has the perfect voice for lovecraft especially with the long winded rambles that are so common. Mixed with the amazing sound effects this is probably one of my favorite audiobooks on YouTube
