Waiting for Jesus
Hannah Rickard Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I was blind
But now I see
You done me wrong
You cheated on me

But you don’t know
Just what I’ll do
There’ll be nobody
To wait for you

Ain’t got no heart
Ain’t got no soul
Ain’t got no love
To fill my bones

Ain’t got no money
Ain’t got no luck
Just waiting for the lord
To pick me up

Come pick me up
‘Cos Lord I’m down
God knows I’m guilty
Of what I’ve done
Just show me how
To cleanse my soul
As I wait for Jesus
To take me home

Help me Jesus
And make me whole
Take me softly
Into your fold
And lead me slowly
To the light
And hold my hand
With wings in flight

Come pick me up
‘Cos Lord I’m down
God knows I’m guilty
Of what I’ve done
Just show me how
To cleanse my soul
As I wait for Jesus
To take me home

As I wait for Jesus
To take me home

As I wait for Jesus
To take me home

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Hannah Rickard's song "Waiting for Jesus" convey themes of betrayal, redemption, and spiritual longing. The opening lines, "I was blind, But now I see, You done me wrong, You cheated on me," suggest a personal betrayal that has resulted in profound emotional pain. The singer expresses a sense of disillusionment and hurt, feeling deceived by someone they had trusted.

The lyrics then shift to a resolve to move on from the betrayal, with lines like "But you don’t know, Just what I’ll do, There’ll be nobody, To wait for you." This indicates a determination to leave behind the pain and betrayal, suggesting a newfound strength and independence. The singer declares that they will not remain in a situation where they are treated poorly and taken advantage of.

The next verses delve into a sense of emptiness and loss, with the singer reflecting on the lack of love, money, and luck in their life. The lines "Ain’t got no heart, Ain’t got no soul, Ain’t got no love, To fill my bones" paint a picture of someone who feels drained and depleted, yearning for something more. The mention of waiting for the Lord to uplift them reflects a deep faith and a belief in divine intervention to bring solace and restoration.

The chorus "Come pick me up, ‘Cos, Lord I’m down" echoes a cry for help and comfort, acknowledging a sense of guilt and a desire for forgiveness. The repeated plea to be cleansed and guided by Jesus speaks to a longing for spiritual renewal and a fresh start. The singer seeks redemption and peace through a connection with the divine, asking to be taken home by Jesus as a way to find solace and healing.

Overall, "Waiting for Jesus" is a poignant and introspective song that explores themes of betrayal, redemption, and finding solace in faith. The lyrics reflect a journey of emotional turmoil, resilience, and ultimately, a yearning for spiritual guidance and renewal. Through its heartfelt expression of pain, hope, and faith, the song captures the complexities of human emotions and the universal longing for a sense of belonging and purpose.

Like the solo albums from members of the Stones no one at all interested, now Rick is dead time to call it a day, should of called it a day after Live aid, he has not produced anything decent since Never too late which which featured the original 4 members.

@leiper72

So why are you here then? Go back to 1981 and enjoy the history...

@joshtinkler7633

Get over yourself the best albums they ever made was when they had Matt on drums. Albums include heavy traffic, the party ain't over yet and in search of the fourth chord. The best albums are in the 21st century. Rossi is king of rock n roll and no one comes close. If u don't like him then u know where the door is. Rossi is one of the most underrated musicians in the world. FACT

Status Quo were finished after Alan Lancaster was sacked by Rossi. The original Frantic Four (Francis Rossi, Rick Parfit, Alan Lancaster, and John Coghlan) had 18 top 10 singles. After Alan was sacked, Status Quo only had 4 top 10 singles, and 3 of them were cover songs. Rossi destroyed Status Quo and the "End of the Road" tour in 1984 should have meant just that. After Alan Lancaster was sacked, Quo became a cabaret act. The singles and albums were rubbish. Matt, rhino, and all the others who joined afterwards, were just session musicians. They were never real Quo members. Only the Frantic Four were the REAL Status Quo. FACT.
