That was a very nice gesture, and I hope that young man makes something of himself. Also let's not forget the huge sacrifice this man is making, because believe me living next door to a kid with a basketball net is no picnic. They can play all day and all night, and they invite their friends over and it can get pretty loud. Hopefully it will all be worth it when that kid is making millions in the NBA. Then maybe that dude can finally get some sleep.

Great young man and an awesome neighbor. This reminds me of the old days when neighbors cared about each other. We need more of that 'Leave it to Beaver' vibe in the world. Respect, love, giving the shirt off your back, working hard, taking care of family, friends and neighbors. Random acts of kindness are duly noted by God. In most cases I think its best to not draw light to yourself but in this case, it was a great example for us all to follow and many of us needed this kick in the butt. We need to be reminded that we are all one and that the barriers that are there are often the ones we create in our mind. Hatred is poison to the soul. Love is what breaks through the darkness. I think if we planted the flag in the ground that we are all human beings first, gender second and whatever race you are in third place, we would likely get along better and not have so much division. President Reagan said it best....."if our planet was attacked by an alien race, there would be no country lines, race, etc.. We would come together as one and work together to combat the alien invasion...all lines between us would fall due to one common cause....to fight, to protect and to survive." That was not an exact quote but it is close to his point. We need to come together vs letting ourselves be pulled apart. Cheers to this neighbor for having such a big heart and good luck to the young man. He appears to have the skills for sure. Chase your dreams!

Teaching kids about the history of discrimination only takes away some of the mystery of how it came to be, and gives them some power to stand up for themselves. @ThunderAppeal why are you so damn negative. The vast majority of people who do good things do it without any cameras around. I keep a kit in my car to get people unstuck in the winter. Before covid I took a homeless person to lunch at least once a week. I've traveled hundreds of kilometers with my chainsaw to help in a disaster. I clear snow for my elderly neighbors and sometimes cut their grass. No cameras involved. I simply do it because it's a nice/good thing to do.

@ThunderAppeal The legal working age in Canada is 14 and they can not be scheduled to work during school hours. I think there's also a limit on how many hours they can be scheduled.

Just because the house has a 2 car garage doesn't mean anything. It doesn't mean they own that house. You don't know the circumstances involved.

What's the problem with neighbors giving him this? No one is forcing them to. Someone does something nice for someone else and your take is they should have just done it themselves?

Let's say the kid got a job to buy the net. Now he's spending his time working at 14 instead of playing ball because the time he would have been playing ball is now spent working. Therefore if he wants to play ball he needs to not work and there we have a paradox.

I bet her mom worked hard to afford a good neighborhood for her son to grow up, so… having this neighbor is the way of making her feel like every sacrifice she did is paying now. It is an inspiration for we all.

@Jenna G - No, it's a collective of the good wishes of the people who donated. They didn't just throw money when Ian came to collect the donation, they expressed the hope that Anthony would someday see his dreams come true. I think it was very respectful of him to read the card out loud - that way the people who donated can be reassured that Anthony understood their good wishes for him and not just the $ they donated.
