Sail Away
Happy Ol'McWeasel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Raising sails on my Mary McClyde,
Watching the shores I am leaving behind,
Towards the stars and the horizon combined,
It's only her now I can trust.

Raising sails on my Mary McClyde,
Watching the shores I am leaving behind,
I wonder how could this be?
Or is it only me?
I'll tell you 'bout my queen of the seas,
What a fine strong beauty she is,
It's only her now I can trust.

I'll sail away, I'll sail away,
I've got nothing more to say,
I'll sail away, I'll sail away,
I've got no reason left to stay.

Swelling sails of my Mary McClyde,
Where sea and heavens unite,
I wonder what will I see?
Or will it blind me?
Winds grew stronger, stars went black,
She swayed but I won't turn back,
It's only her now I can trust.

I'll sail away, I'll sail away,
I've got nothing more to say,
I'll sail away, I'll sail away,
I've got no reason left to stay.

Swelling sails of my Mary McClyde,
Begged mercy but I've been denied,
I wonder what will it be?
Will she betray me?
At her mercy I stood on deck,
With the rope coiled 'round me neck,
It's only her now I can trust.

I'll sail away, I'll sail away,
I've got nothing more to say,
I'll sail away, I'll sail away,
I've got no reason left to stay.
I'll sail away,
I've got nothing more to say,
I'll sail away, I'll sail away,
I've got no reason left to stay.
I'll sail away, I'll sail away,
I've got nothing more to say,

I'll sail away, I'll sail away,
I've got no reason left to stay.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Sail Away by Happy Ol' McWeasel depict a tale of a sailor who sets off on a journey, leaving behind the shores and his past. He narrates his journey on Mary McClyde, his queen of the seas, and expresses his trust in her. As he sails towards the horizon, he witnesses the sea and heaven unite, and he wonders what the future holds for him. Despite the winds growing stronger and the stars fading away, he refuses to turn back and trusts Mary McClyde with his life. But towards the end, the sailor begs for mercy, and as he stands on deck with the rope coiled around his neck, he realizes that he has placed too much trust in her and has been betrayed instead.

The song portrays the theme of trust and betrayal, where the sailor believes in Mary McClyde and places his life in her hands. The sailor's journey seems to symbolize his journey towards a new beginning, leaving behind his past and the things that used to hold him back. But the betrayal towards the end indicates that one cannot trust blindly and that not everything is what it seems.

Very underrated... This music can find and feel you deep, but it's not what everybody likes sadly, anyway great song!

@dirtymc11

This band just proves that The Wild Geese do sing. The spirit of Irish music (that core that says "no matter how many bones you break you will never break my spirit) comes out in this band from Slovenia and smacks you in the fucking face demanding that if nothing else you don't ignore it.
