You're Getting To Be A Habit With Me
Harry Lyrics

Seems to act just like a drug
You're getting to be a habit with me
Let me stay in your arms
I'm addicted to your charms
You're getting to be a habit with me
I used to think your love was something that I could take or leave alone
But now I couldn't do without my supply
Oh, I can't break away
I must have you every day
As regularly as coffee or tea
You've got me in your clutches
And I can't get free
You're getting to be a habit with me
Can't break it
You're getting to be a habit with me
You've got me in your clutches
And I can't get free
Like getting shut-eye,
You are what I need
Eternally, ohhh! my
You're getting to be a habit with me
The lyrics to Harry Edison & Ben Webster's song "You are getting to be a habit with me" express the addictive and all-consuming nature of being in love. The persona in the song describes how every kiss and hug feels like a drug, and how they are becoming increasingly dependent on their partner. The idea of being addicted to someone's charms and not being able to break away from their presence is a central theme in the song.
The persona reflects on how they used to believe that they could take or leave love, but now they realize they cannot live without their partner. They compare their need for their partner to the daily habit of drinking coffee or tea, emphasizing how essential they have become. They feel trapped in their partner's clutches and unable to break free from the hold they have on them. The repeated phrase "You're getting to be a habit with me" demonstrates the escalating intensity and attachment the persona feels towards their loved one.
Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of addiction, dependency, and the overwhelming power of love. The persona acknowledges their inability to break away and accepts that their partner has become an integral part of their life and routine.
