standing here so close to me
there's so much I feel that I should say
but words can wait until some other day
Kiss me once, then kiss me twice
Then kiss me once again
It's been a long, long time
Since I can't remember when
It's been a long, long time
You'll never know how many dreams
I've dreamed about you
Or just how empty they all seemed without you
So kiss me once, then kiss me twice
Then kiss me once again
It's been a long, long time
Ah, kiss me once, then kiss me twice
Then kiss me once again
It's been a long time
Haven't felt like this my dear
Since I can't remember when
It's been a long, long time
You'll never know how many dreams
I dreamed about you
Or just how empty they all seemed without you
So kiss me once then kiss me twice
Then kiss me once again
It's been a long, long time
Long, long time

The lyrics to Harry James and His Orchestra's song "It's Been A Long, Long Time" speak of a reunion between two people who never thought they would be standing so close to each other again. The singer expresses that there is so much they want to say to each other, but words can wait until another day. Instead, the singer asks to be kissed - once, twice, and then again. The singer has not felt like this in a long, long time and cannot remember when they last felt this way. They reveal that they have dreamt about this moment with the other person in their arms and how empty their life had been without them.
This song speaks to the power of physical intimacy and how it can express emotions that words cannot. It reveals how long-awaited reunions can bring about feelings of joy and fulfillment, which can fill a lifetime's worth of memories. The singer is nostalgic and acknowledges that they are reconnecting with someone who has been absent from their lives for a long time. The lyrics inspire listeners to cherish those important moments with loved ones and the euphoria that comes with being reunited after a long time.

I am so glad people heard this in endgame and love it. I learned it from my grandparents when I was a little kid. They were teenagers during WWII, their older brothers fought in it. So that time and this song have a special place in my heart. Thank you so much for posting it!
Ps... I have it in an old CD collection, a 6 disc set of WWII classics.

I was so insanely exited to find it in a box of miscellaneous records for $5, best day or my life haha

I discovered this song during CA: The Winter Soldier, and it's summed up my romance and happy marriage to a longtime friend. It had literally been a long, long time that we knew one another, each of us in a difficult relationship...and suddenly we were both alone, and lonely. So, things happened...lovely things.

UPDATE: While I was working out the other morning this song began to play---and my wife, who works from home quite a bit, came into the room, enticed me off my exercise bike---and we shared, a sweet, slow dance. Lovely.

Is it weird that I’m only 17 but I miss the 1940’s in a way
@jacquelineklinges
No, it is not weird at all! I mean, I’m only 19 and I miss the old times as well. I don’t know why but it just feels like I was actually there. I am literally in love with anything that’s vintage from 1940s-1980s and medieval Celtic times, cuz I’m an old soul. So, you probably are, too, if you like old music like this. But don’t be afraid to be an old soul. It’s actually a good thing because listening to music like this is extraordinary and comforting that it just gives you such a nostalgic, rapturous feeling. 😊❤️
@drdimento
So awesome. If you ever wanna talk that era just say the word. I come just after that area born in the late 40’s, raised in the 50’s, turning teen and adult in the 60’s.
