The Rhythm
Hatchie Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

Took some time for me to find the rhythm
It's hard to see but believe in me it's within

No reason to go
No space left to grow
It's moving too fast
When I wanna go slow
No place left to leave
No love
Till I took some time for me to find the rhythm
To find the rhythm

The rhythm

Took some time to redefine the feeling
Tried some things that helped me reach the ceiling

No reason to go
No space left to grow
I'm feeling left behind
Am I moving too slow?
No face I can see
No love
Till I took some time for me to find the rhythm
To find the rhythm

The rhythm

Fall asleep right next to me
Tell me it couldn't be harder
Some things will never be
More than what they are

But our love's a recipe
With me you'll never be starving
Now I've got you next to me
I'm always coming up
Always coming up
Always coming up
Always coming up
Always coming up
Always coming up

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "The Rhythm" by Hatchie convey a journey of self-discovery and finding inner balance. The singer reflects on the struggle to find their own rhythm in life and how it took time for them to uncover it. The opening lines suggest that this rhythm may not be immediately apparent or visible to others, but it exists within the singer, urging the listener to believe in its presence.

The repeated lines "No reason to go, no space left to grow" evoke a sense of stagnation or feeling stuck, possibly in a situation or mindset that needs to change. The contrast between moving too fast when wanting to go slow and feeling left behind while moving too slow reflects a sense of disconnection from oneself and a yearning for alignment with their own pace and desires.

The chorus emphasizes the importance of taking time to find this rhythm, suggesting that through introspection and self-exploration, the singer discovers a renewed sense of purpose and direction. The repetition of the word "rhythm" underscores its significance as a guiding force in their life, symbolizing harmony and alignment with their true self.

The final verses shift towards a more hopeful and intimate tone, with references to falling asleep next to someone and the idea that certain things will never be more than what they are. The mention of love as a recipe and a source of sustenance implies that the relationship brings fulfillment and nourishment to the singer's life. The repeated phrase "always coming up" could signify a sense of growth, progress, or rising above challenges, indicating a positive transformation and a newfound sense of contentment.

I've been a fan since the very beginning and so far, I think this is your finest song. This is the one that hits hardest, both musically and creatively. It's like now you're even more comfortable and confident, maybe due to experience as well, to experiment and create something that's wild and exciting but still sounding like a Hatchie song. I got goosebumps by the mid part of the song when it gets heavy and then light again in the bridge. 10/10.

Is she a time traveler? How can you be so amazing, Hatchie? How can you capture the Dreampop sound so perfectly?
