During the 90s, Andy was singer and guitarist with Wigan band Monkeyland, playing the same seedy north west venues as The Verve and More Perfect Watchers, who went on to become Witness. After Monkeyland split, Andy went back to mixing up motion graphics with sound and produced some animated videos for bands such as Inspiral Carpets and The Mountaineers, but it wasn't long before a new band was formed called Cannula, with original Monkeyland singer, David Spencer, and other ex-Monkeyland: Neil Wignall on bass and Nigel Wood on drums.
Cannula released an album called A Neon Serenade but then drifted apart. Andy began work on a solo album under the name of Heifervescent. Neil plays bass guitar on a few tracks.
Up till now there have been 8 full Heifervescent albums and various other experiments and collaborations.
Little Egg, released May 2012, is now available on iTunes: http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/little-egg/id530820572
We've Got to Plug You In
Heifervescent Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We got them free from a man in London
Yeah he was going off a recommendation
He said he'd really like to speak to you
But you're just sitting in a broken armchair
Oh won't you even look me in the eye yeah?
Now are you going to say anything yeah?
I'll show you my soul if you'll show me yours
I'll give you anything you want if you'd please respond
I'll tell you all my doubts and my reservations
You can really stretch my patience
But don't you walk out
We've got a lot of things to talk about
And it really isn't helping when you start to shout
That you were never designed to sort this out
Well there's nothing more to talk about
We've got to run cos the bus is leaving
And me, you know, I'm bloody freezing
I can't wait here for another minute
Oh where's the wire? cos we've really got to plug you in
Don't you walk out
We've got a lot of things to talk about
And it really isn't helping when you start to shout
That you were never designed to sort this out
Well there's nothing more to talk about
Don't you walk out
We've got a lot of things to talk about
And it really isn't helping
Don't you walk out
We've got a lot of things to talk about
And it really isn't helping when you start to shout
That you were never designed to sort this out
Well there's nothing more to talk about
"We've Got to Plug You In" by Heifervescent is a song about communication breakdown and the frustration that occurs when one person is unwilling or unable to engage in conversation. The first verse introduces the idea of a fourth dimension, which could refer to a new level of understanding or communication, but the singer's attempts to reach this dimension are thwarted by the other person's disinterest. The tickets were obtained for free from a man in London, perhaps suggesting that the opportunity for better communication is rare and valuable. The man in London recommends that the other person is worth speaking to, but their lack of engagement makes this difficult.
In the second verse, the singer tries to connect with the other person by offering to share their own thoughts and feelings, but still receives no response. The frustration builds as the other person sits silently in a broken armchair, refusing to look the singer in the eye. The repeated refrain of "where's the wire?" emphasizes the idea that the other person needs to be "plugged in" or connected in order to engage in conversation.
The chorus repeats the plea for the other person to stay and talk, but acknowledges that there may be nothing left to say if they continue to refuse to engage. The song ends with the urgency of needing to catch a bus, perhaps symbolizing the fleeting nature of opportunities to connect with others.
Overall, "We've Got to Plug You In" is a meditation on the struggles of communication and the despair that can come from feeling unheard or misunderstood.

I don’t want to see them hold on to wrists,
I don’t want tot see you end up quite like this,
I don’t fancy watching they choke on your fear,
I don’t want to leave you but I can’t stay here

This is the last of the locks I'm fixing
before I start on something new
and now your clothes are armour plated
and there's a wardrobe full of deep sea diver suits
The lengths that I must go to, to keep the flies away
but now you'll be ok
You've got a year's supply of produce
take it easy and you'll live
and there's your own little generator
it's a little loud now but you'll get used to it
The depths that I must fall to, to keep the flies away
but now you'll be ok
Oh you know it doesn't have to be this way
you could just begin believing that some day
all these parasites won't always look at you this way
why don't you fly away?
